The local folkloric music is what locals call "típico". Típico is mainly done with accordion, drums and "bajo". It´s very cheerful and usually invites you to dance, and you can spend hours singing and dancing. That is the music that is usually played and danced in every public and private event, or conventions. Our national dress, the "Pollera" is recognized as one of the most beautiful dresses in the world, and has won numerous prizes in international events, and competitions. One of these dresses can easily cost up to $20,000 and they are all hand made unique originals.
Our national dances are very beautiful. The main ones are: the Punto, Tamborito, Tamborera, the "Diablicos" Sucios, the "Congo" and many other regional ones. Here is a video of a Panamanian folkloric dance called "Baile del Punto y el Caballo" (translated literally, "The Dance of the Point and the Horse":
We also have a National Symphony Orchestra, National Ballet, numerous international concerts, artists from all over the world performing here, a variety of music in discotheques, the Jazz Festival, an October Fest and many others.

My country Panama has good music, for example, tipico. We also have beautiful, traditional dresses, called the "pollera". Below is a picture of a pollera.

The song "Panamá Viejo" (In English, "Old Panamá"), by songwriter Ricardo Fábrega, is a tribute to the old city of Panamá that was established under King Charles V of Spain on August 15th, 1519. Panamá Viejo was Spain's headquarters in the Pacific. It was the main transit point for gold from Peru, silver from the Veraguas Province in Panamá, and pearls from the archipelago of Las Perlas, also in Panamá, all very important to Spain.
After several disastrous fires, Panamá Viejo was finally burned by pirate Sir Henry Morgan in 1671. The Spanish crown didn´t want to lose one of their most important cities in America, so it decided to found the city again in what we today call Casco Viejo.
The song highlights the dream of the distant memory of a city where, under the shadow of its walls, Hispanic blood was redeemed and combined with pirates’ blood, and where the only sorrow that is left is of its dear walls, and pirates who dream of their treasures. Her quiet ocean reflects her beautiful sky that Panamanians love so much. Old Panama, your sacred ruins bring me phrases, like prayers. And not far away, between your palm trees, you bring me the breeze and sighs full of love.

Each culture in Panama has its own music. What is traditionally known as Tipico is a generic term applied to the popular peasant music most people of Panama listen and dance to. Tipico is derived from more traditional forms like cumbia, mejorana, decima and tamborito. Some of the best known artists of Tipico are Samy and Sandra Sandoval and Yin Carrizo, to mention just a few.

Another style or form of popular music is what is known as tropical music. Examples of Panamanian tropical music is salsa, calipso and raggae and raggaeton. A well known exponent of salsa music is Ruben Blades who is known internationally. Calipso, although not so popular these days, was brought to Panama by the Negro immigrants from the Caribbean and it has influenced other forms here.
Jazz music has also found its niche here in Panama and every year since 2004 a Jazz Festival is organized by the well known pianist Danilo Perez.

For the Carnival there is also the Murga.
Local variations of reggae and reggaeton music have also become famous in Panama.

I can say that music is part of the personality of each Panamanian. The folkloric music is the typical music that comes from the rural cities of Panama. The most popular music is called "tipico," which is played with an accordion accompanied by a singer. For teenagers and adults, one of most popular music is reggae in Spanish. In addition, pop music, salsa, meringue and romantic music is well received by Panamanians. The reality is that Panama is a musical country.
