My personal experience of medical here in the city of David in the province of Chiriqui, Panama still amazes me. I for one had no idea of what to expect in these hospitals here, but I do have to say I´m still here to tell you my story.

I have chronic asthma. What caused me to get medical attention was that I was severely cold when it was around 90 degrees or more outside. I went to Hospital Chiriqui here in David and was admitted immediately. I stayed for a week. The service was great and the doctors took great care of me. All in all the attention I received was amazing.
In another incident my parents had laser surgery on their eyes and again the attention they received was fantastic. Then in December of 2012 I rushed my father to the Mae Lewis Hospital here in David, where they detected that he had water in his lungs. He also stayed in the hospital for a week; three days of which were spent in ICU. Again, the attention he received was great and we have our dad back with us here at home.
I have taken clients to these hospitals and have seen them go through hip replacement surgery, or knee replacement surgery, and I have to say they are very pleased with the results. Needless to say the price was very inexpensive considering the surgeries they had or the time spent in the hospital.

I have a few friends living in USA and whenever they have the chance to visit Panama, they take the opportunity to perform every dental treatment (that wasn't urgent of course) that they might need, due to the huge difference in prices in comparison with USA.

in addition to offering an exceptional emergency 30 day courtesy medical plan for visitors, Panamá, a favorite destination for many foreigners, has also lately began developing good programs for dental and medical tourism.
With its highly trained, bilingual medical professionals and ongoing continuing international educational programs, Panamá offers a very good option for medical and dental care. Panamá has excellent hospitals with the latest technology and doctors of every specialty; its just matter of using them as you need them.
Even though in the main small cities in the "interior" (such as David, Soná, Chitré, Santiago and Chorrera, as well Bocas in the near future) you find good medical centers, it is in Panamá City where you will find the highest concentration of them and the most variety of choices and prices, at 1/3 the cost or less than in other countries.
[Editor’s note: According to a press release August 1, 2014, the Panama Authority of Tourism stated that no charge tourist insurance coverage is no longer being offered.]

The medical and dental tourism is something that people have been pushing for some time now, not just in Panama, but in other countries as well. I personally do not have any experience with medical tourism for things like plastic surgery, but I do know a lot of people who have had this experience with regard to dental tourism. Most of these people have ties to Panama, they grew up in the Canal Zone, and they come back to Panama and make a vacation out of it to have their dental...

Most of these people have ties to Panama, they grew up in the Canal Zone, and they come back to Panama and make a vacation out of it to have their dental procedures done, usually for about the same cost as having their dental procedure done in the US, but throwing in their vacation to Panama for free.
As long as you are with private healthcare and you do your research really well, I think that having medical and dental procedures done in Panama at a lower cost than having it done elsewhere could be a good idea. But like with any country, especially with plastic surgery, you really have to do your homework. Like anywhere else, Panama has some really good doctors, and they have some not so good doctors, and so you have to be careful and you have to do your research.

People from the United States come very often to have surgeries and procedures in Panama, that they would get in the United States or anywhere else. Medical tourism as well as dental tourism is doing well in Panama because getting the procedures done here is cheaper, but of the same quality. For that reason, my girlfriend’s parents are coming here to Panama next month from the US to have a laser eye surgery.

My sister is a dentist. She told me a story about a couple that came here to Panama a couple of years ago and saw her. They were surprised by the kind of work that she did and the price that she charged them. When they came back to the US, they went to see their dentist and the dentist said the dental care they received from my sister here in Panama was perfect.
