A good percentage of doctors in Panama were trained in the U.S. In the case of specialists, this is even more true, since there are many doctors that earn their M.D. certificate in Panama, and subsequently travel to the U.S. or Europe to continue studying in their chosen specialty.

Yes, there are a great many English speaking doctors in Panama. In fact, for any type of specialty you will be able to find a bi-lingual specialist. It is worth noting that in Panama, the doctors are not employees of the hospital, they are independent contractors. So here you do not call up the hospital for an appointment, you go straight to the doctor. There are consultorios (medical offices) attached or very close to most hospitals.

There are many English speaking doctors and dentists in Panama. We have lived in Panama for seven years and have very good doctors and dentists who speak both English and Spanish. We live on the Caribbean Cost and we go for our medical needs primarily in Colon at the private hospital in Quatro Altos. We self pay and the prices are very reasonable. $20 for a general doctor visit, $50 for a specialist.

The Panamanian law for School of Medicine is very strict, and graduates, both local and Panamanians who study abroad, have to complete an extensive training program before they can be accredited as professionals in the field and receive accreditation from medical leaders in foreign countries. Panama also offers MD´s from other countries are legally established in Panama.
The Panamanian school board includes English in their educational program, which is one reason why MD´s, as well as almost all local professionals, speak several languages, mainly English, not to mention that many of them study for their masters or PHD´s abroad, and their clinics have the latest technology.

The doctors in Punta Pacifica Hospital and Centro Medico Paitilla in Panama City, Panama are English speaking. Other hospitals have bilingual doctors.
In many cases, the doctors were trained in the United States but came back to their native country of Panama to continue their practice. A lot of these doctors were trained in Johns Hopskins and in Tulane University so they speak English fluently.

Yes, there are English-speaking doctors in Panama. There’s a great practice on Via Argentina in Panama City called the Einstein Clinic. I know all of the doctors there. Every time I go back it seems like there’s a different doctor. They’re all quite young and they all speak good English. All doctors in Panama City under the age of 35 speak English now. I find the Einstein Clinic on Via Argentina in Panama City to be great. I would highly recommend it. The fee is cheap. A normal visit to the doctor is US $30 if you pay cash, without insurance.
I went to see the doctor there one time and when I came back, they didn’t even charge me for the follow-up. They’re a great practice. They’re located above the España. It’s right in the middle, in El Cangrejo in the middle of Panama City.
I’ve only experienced English-speaking doctors in Panama City. I’ve had emergencies where we’ve ended up at Punta Pacifica, one of the private hospitals here. It’s a nice, new private hospital. I’ve been down there a couple of times with other people, visiting people. The doctors clearly spoke English. I don’t think that’s an issue here.
If you went outside of Panama City, the facilities are a lot more rustic. The feel of Panama City is almost a First World city as far as facilities go. It’s quite surprising to most people when they come here. We have clients coming down here to Panama City, it’ll be their first time here, and they’re always quite taken aback when they see the city. They call it a mini Miami.
However, when you go to David or Colón especially, it’s more like what you would expect in Central America, a lot more provincial, shall we say; nowhere near the facilities or the level of English that you would get in Panama City.
