Yes indeed !!! There are many Panamanian US trained doctors working at private hospitals in Panama. Probably hundreds !!! Trained at some of the best hospitals in the US (Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Jackson Memorial, etc. etc.), they will speak fluent English and have diplomas of some of the best medical schools in the world hanging on their office walls !

As a matter of fact, they are several Panamanian doctors that are chiefs of surgery in the most important hospitals in the US, or in other important medical centers, like the Cancer Center in Houston, making them icons of Panamanian medicine. And they contribute a great deal to Panamanian social causes to less privileged citizens.

All the doctors that we know in Panama were trained in Johns Hopkins, Tulane University, and Georgetown and they come back here to Panama to practice.
All of our doctors (or at least 90% of them), whether they be a dermatologist, an internist or a cardiologist, were trained in the US. You can ask them or you will see their diplomas. Also, they are all bilingual.

Our tour clients are usually very satisfied to meet with doctors and talk a little about the quality of care they can expect, which is on par with any service they would find in the US.
However, I usually remind folks that American- trained doctors do not always have an English -speaking staff. ...

People from the US go to Panama City for medical services and that tells you that these doctors and hospitals in Panama City are good, plus you can get the services for a lot less money.

I don’t know how other doctors are trained in the US, but what I always hear is that the medical schools here are very good. This is especially true for those doctors who graduated from Universidad de Panama, which is the public hospital. This university only offers around 50 seats and only gives the seats to the people with high grades.
The doctors in Panama are very good. I would say, pretty much the same as the doctors in the US.

Another popular place for Panamanian doctors to go to finish their education as doctors is Spain, so Spain and the US would be the primary places for Panamanian doctors to get their training.

The physicians at Punta Pacifica can send emails with photos, do live streaming, and can interact on-line in real time to a doctor at Johns Hopkins to answer questions before doing a surgery.To give you an idea of the quality and reputation of the healthcare services here in Panama City, a large union in the United States was recently in negotiations to bring their workers to Panama for healthcare services. The reason is that the prices for healthcare services here in Panama can run 1/3 of the price in the US. As a result, for example, a patient could have a hip transplant with his wife in the hotel next to him in Panama and the bill will still be 1/3 of the price in the United States. The same would be true of a heart transplant.
Having medical procedures done in Panama as opposed to in the US is a very great option because it is less expensive in Panama, with very good doctors, some of whom were trained in the US, and others who were trained in England and various other countries known for quality healthcare.
In the country of Panama, if you were in need of a major surgery, you would come to Panama City. If you have a broken leg, there are clinics and hospitals in other places in the country that can provide you good service. The same is true for snakebites and similar situations. There are smaller hospitals in each of the counties of Panama and many of the doctors travel back and forth. But from one end of the country to the other is 6 hours by car and one hour by air, so it is not a long distance to come to Panama City if you need to.

Doctors who are trained in Cuba, even though Cuba has been a closed country to the rest of the world, have had education that has always been one of the best in Latin America. Students who come from Cuba and study in Panama are so knowledgeable, maybe because Cubans have nothing else to do basically but study all the time. Education in Cuba is free, so Cubans have a lot of books, and a lot of time to invest in their studies. I do believe that Cubans are very well-educated.
The Panamanian National University is also considered one of the best medical schools in Latin America. Panama has very, very good doctors. Several of my high school classmates who were the best in our class found it very, very difficult because being in medical school is tough. Basically, anywhere you are in the world, it’s going to be tough, but being in medical school here in Panama is tougher. If a student is having problems with just one subject and fails that subject, he automatically has to repeat the whole year. That’s why graduating medical school tells you that you either studied very, very, very hard, or you’re incredibly smart.
