Since prices vary, it's a good idea to visit the websites of both providers. Usually, they have promotional prices for the initial period (a month or two). The more services you purchase from the same provider, the better the price. It might be a good idea to bundle services like cable, Internet, and in the case of Cable&Wireless, cell phone (although I have selected another provider for that service: Claro). As of April 2013, prices are as follows:
Usage is unlimited, but prices vary according to speed:
- 1 Mbps: C&W: US$ 9.99
- 2 Mbps: C&W: 15.95
- 3 Mbps: C&W: 16.95 - CO: 24.95
- 4 Mbps: C&W: 24.95
- 5 Mbps: C&W: 29.95 - CO: 41.95
- 10 Mbps: CO: 42.95
If you watch a lot of videos, you'll need between 3 and 5 Mbps, but of course, the higher the speed, the better the experience.

For those looking to retire to Bocas del Toro, and planning to move away from Bocas Town down into the archipelago to join the friendly expat community down here, accessing the internet can sometimes be a bit of a challenge.
I live on a small island about 6 miles from town, but am lucky enough to have direct line of sight to Bocas Town, which means I can use Claro's 3.5G mobile internet by connecting with the USB dongle shown in the picture above. Digicell and Mas Movil offer similar options at the same sort of price.
You have to experiment a bit with the different providers, and ask others in your area, in order to find the service that will suit you best. Cost is currently $15 for 30 days of service. The USB dongle itself is an initial one-time cost of around $40.
For those who are unable to pick up a cell phone signal there are other, slightly pricier options. Movistar seems to work pretty well down here, and many of the expats bounce the signal around from one property to another using repeaters and receivers. You have to get creative when you live down in the jungle!
Movistar can cost from around $20 up to $150 or so per month, depending on the speed and amount of data you want. There are initial setup up fees and equipment deposits too.
We are hopeful and expectant of a new, more competitive expat-run service coming to the archipelago very soon to. I'll add a further answer to the "What is the cost of the internet in Panama?" question when that's up and running.

Regarding the Internet in Boquete you can get 9 megs of speed (pretty darn fast) and 14 channels of television for $44 per month. If it’s critical to your mental health, you can have two Internet service providers, so in case one goes down you can switch to the other one. You can get 3 megs of speed from the second provider for about $25 a month.

It´s not unusual to see competition, with the latest modern equipment in the market. Since the government in Panamá opened up the market some years ago, prices are very competitive, and you can get the internet in various ways, according to your needs.
Cable and Wireless & Cable Onda are popular, and offer packages including phone lines and cable TV. Other companies offering different technology services are Claro, ClaroCom, Skype and Mobilphone. Some others only offer satellite service. In some places, especially in isolated areas, you may want to buy a different type of technology, in order to get service.
Internet prices range around $40.00 per month, with decent service and coverage.
One thing that must be pointed out is that the government of Panamá offers free internet in the countrywide, in certain areas, for the benefit of underprivileged citizens, and is committed to every person getting service, in order to improve education in Panamá. The government of Panamá also gives a free laptop computer to secondary students for them to keep while they remain in school, until graduation, with free internet.

It was funny because I went to upgrade my internet package from 5 MBPS to 9 MBPS and cancel my TV subscription because we do not watch it. I was feeling good because I was going to cancel the TV subscription, but it turned out that if I took 9 MBPS without the TV, it...

We currently have only two Internet providers in Panama, and that’s why it can be a little bit of a burden trying to spend modestly, because the less competition you’ll have, the more you’ll have to settle for higher prices and / or lower quality. One of the providers offers the whole package, which includes cable TV, phone...The cost of the Internet in Panama is around US $20 per month. In Panama, we usually have many promotions when it comes to Internet providers. One of the providers offers the whole package, which includes cable TV, phone (landline), and the Internet. The other provider offers the landline and the Internet, and they’re starting to sell cable TV. There are many Internet, TV and phone packages in Panama that cost between $40 and $60, and you have the option of choosing only the landline, which is around $18, or only cable, which is a little bit more expensive at around $30 - $35, or just the Internet, which is around $20.
The minimum Internet download speed you can get in Panama is 1mbps, but for $20, you get 2 mbps, and if you sign up during promotion season in Panama, which is at the end of the year or during the fair in March, then they give you 6 mbps.
