There are many movie theaters in Panama and most movies premier here at the same time as the United States. The four biggest malls of the city; Multicentreo, Multiplaza, Albrook Mall and Metro Mall. A ticket will cost you around $5. If it's 3D it's around $7 and in all cinemas in Panama they have VIP cinema rooms for $15. The difference is very big. Wednesdays its half price except for VIP cinema which is always the same price.
In Panama if you are a retiree ("pensionado; women over 55 years of age a man over 60 years of age) you may qualify for up to a 50% discount. You need to show your (pensionado) ID to get the discount.

The regular price to see a movie in Panama is US $4.50, but since the 3D movies became popular a few years ago, going to the movie has become more expensive. It is $8 to see a 3D movie. There are also VIP rooms that cost $10 per person. VIP rooms have Lazy Boy recliners instead of the regular movie house chairs, so you can almost lay down while you watch the movie. They also have food service. You just have to press a button and service personnel will take your order, so you...

One of the movie chains here in Panama City lowers the ticket prices to half the standard price during Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Popcorn and soda are sold in combos. Popcorn and two sodas for two persons can cost from $6 to $8. Other than popcorn, you can also buy hotdogs and other snacks. Only popcorn and soda are sold in combos and they usually cost more than the movie ticket.

Retirees in Panama get a special discount on movie tickets of about 20% to 25% off the regular ticket price. Generally, a movie ticket costs US $5 but for Pensionados (retirees), it is only $3 or $3.50 or somewhere in that range.
The movies in the cinemas here in Panama are first-run movies. We have about a two to three week delay showing the movies compared to the US. Movies in English have Spanish subtitles.

We do not have movie theaters in Boquete, but we have 2 movie theaters that are currently open in David, and there is one that is being built in this very big mall, but I don’t think it’s going to be done until probably the end of next year.
David is about 30-35 minutes from Boquete. It is the third largest city in Panama, and it has shopping centers and movie theaters and so forth, while Boquete does not have any of these.

In David, you can choose either the movie theater that is downtown, or the movie theater that is in the mall, which is located next to Price Mart. The movie theater in the mall is in a location that’s very convenient for foreigners because they can go buy groceries, and then they can go to the movies. Going to the movies costs US $3.75 per person if you go at 3PM-5PM, but if you go at 7PM or 9PM, then it costs $4.25.
Here in Panama, we get the same movies that you get in the US. The movies that are being shown in theaters in Panama are in English with Spanish subtitles. There are also children’s movies, such as the Disney movies, because the theaters are targeting kids. The children’s movies are all shown in Spanish.
Going to movies in Panama City is more expensive than in David. Movie theaters in Panama City charge between US $5 and US $7, which is the most expensive in the country because they have these brand new, awesome 3D theaters so it’s got to be more expensive.

As a retiree in Panama, you get 25% off of movie tickets. Movie tickets in Panama fluctuate between $3 and $7, depending on who’s in the movie. If it’s a pre-release, or a release, the price is normal like in the USA. I think you’d spend more on popcorn than on the ticket, though, and these are all high-end movie theaters where you can lie down and use electric chair, and you can have your fried chicken and chow mein while being in the movie theater; they serve it to...

It is very inexpensive to go to movies in Chiriquí, which is the province in Panama where Boquete is located. For $20 or less a couple can enjoy a movie and have some snacks.
Unfortunately there are not good movie theaters yet in Boquete, but there is a massive commercial development in David (less than a 30 minute drive from Boquete) called Federal Mall which will have new movie theater. I don't know the company who is going to bring the service, but...
