Cheap clothing places like Costo, Dorians, Saks, Oca Loca...you find just about anything and not...

There are multiple outlet stores on Via Espana, also all price ranges. And then the variety of Super Malls that Panama now has. Cheap clothing places like Costo, Dorians, Saks, Oca Loca...you find just about anything and not expensive. It shows where the locals shop. The more 'upscale' shops are found in Multi Plaza, but also at all the other malls. Since we don't need much clothing here in this climate, my expenses on clothing are very low.
Many people fly in from other countries to do their shopping here as value is great. In fact one of the busiest mall is right next to the airport in Albrook with a hotel built in!
Great duty free shops as well.

Since Panama is also a distribution center for Central and part of South América you can find good deals at the end of a season.
There are also a lot of stores at malls like Albrook were you will find stuff really cheap, for example, pants for $2.99 and tshirts for $1.99. Super deals!

Panama gets many seconds. The clothes are not bad; just the seams are not even or the sizes do not match, etc. You can get good name products for considerable savings or you can go to the malls and pay American prices. Your choice.

I live on a small Caribbean island near Dolphin Bay in Bocas del Toro, on the northern coast of Panama. For me, the cost of clothing is almost negligible.
The picture to the right represents almost my entire wardrobe. One of my favourite things about my life in Bocas del Toro is that I rarely have to make any clothing decisions. Sunny day? I guess I'll wear shorts and t-shirt today then. Raining? Shorts and t-shirt will be fine. When heading...

The picture to the right represents almost my entire wardrobe. One of my favourite things about my life in Bocas del Toro is that I rarely have to make any clothing decisions. Sunny day? I guess I'll wear shorts and t-shirt today then. Raining? Shorts and t-shirt will be fine. When heading out on a rainy day I just take an extra, dry t-shirt in a sealed plastic bag, and swap into that when I get to the restaurant, or wherever I'm going.
I own four or five pairs of shorts and about half a dozen t-shirts. These are graded from "smart" to "work use only", but generally tend to fall somewhere in the middle of that range. As they head down into "work use only" and then eventually become assigned to "use as rags only", I have to top up the "smart" end of the wardrobe. I usually do this for a couple of bucks in a goodwill store as I pass through the States occasionally.
There is only one smart shirt (with a collar) on my rack, used only for very special occasions. It came out for a wedding at our local jungle restaurant, Rana Azul, earlier this year.
My only other investment in clothes is for footwear:-
A new pair of flip-flops is about $2.50, and you can never have too many pairs. I am forever leaving mine at restaurants or friend's houses, as I tend to be barefoot most of the time. (I do need the flip-flops to get from my house to my dock, and vice versa, as my gravel path is a bit painful under bare feet. I've had to do this journey carefully a few times on my return from Rana Azul restaurant on a Sunday afternoon, as I seem to leave my flip-flops there far too often!!)
T-shirts, shorts and occasionally flip-flops - that's my idea of a well organised wardrobe.

Clothing costs in Panama can be really low, in the middle or plenty expensive, depending where you want to shop. You can buy all the t-shirts you could want for $1.99 to $5.99. Shoes from $6 to $600. ( I paid the big amount for shoes imported from Italy that I got married in - I won't do that again.)
The bottom line is you control your budget for clothes, shoes, etc. Spend as little or as much as you like. I spend most of my time now in...

The bottom line is you control your budget for clothes, shoes, etc. Spend as little or as much as you like. I spend most of my time now in sandals, shorts and no top (unless we are going out from the house).
We live on the Caribbean side of Panama, near Portobello in a community with two offshore reefs that you can walk on at low tide. No big social schedules for us anymore ....just laid-back fun with friends in the community here and fun hobbies for my wife and myself. We love Panama.
