What's the closest airport to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua and what are the flights to and from San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua?

There is no airport in San Juan Del Sur. I heard that the government has recently approved the construction of an airstrip here, but it is only for small planes and not the ones that have international flights. There is news that there will be another airport just about half an hour away from here, although we are still waiting for that.

The big difference is if you fly through the airport in Liberia, Costa Rica, you have to go through customs at the Nicaraguan-Costa Rican border, which could take time, depending on the amount of people when you get there.

 

Some people prefer to fly from the airport in Liberia because there are more direct flights from the US to Liberia than there is to Managua. As an example, there is a direct flight from LaGuardia in New York to Liberia, Costa Rica but there isn’t one in Managua.
