Where's the best sightseeing in and around San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua?
Eugenio Cortez - Hacienda & Ecolodge Morgan´s Rock
The best sightseeing in and around San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua has to be the lookout point at the Christ Statue. It is on the north end of the beach and way up in the mountain. You get an amazing view of San Juan and the other beaches to the side.
Most sightseers do not just walk all the way to the top to see the statute. You can walk all the way up, but it’s definitely a steep walk, so even for a fit person, it’s really a hike. You can...

You can reach the statue from the beach by just walking through a couple of streets and then start hiking. But that is what hikers and marathoners do. Regular mortals, like us, ride cars.

Most people drive their vehicle about ¾ of the way up and walk from there the remaining hundred steps or so to the statue. It is still a climb. It is not easy, but it is perfectly do-able and anybody can do it. There are railings and it is also inclined. There’s a small US $2 entrance fee. The statue is very similar to the one that you see in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
Another thing I would do for someone who wants to see the best sights is hop on a boat and do a little rundown of the beach. Take a look at San Juan del Ssur from the water towards the city. That’s a very good full view, too.
Once you are on foot and on the street, that’s when you get the real feel of the town. There’s the street that’s parallel to the beach that’s great to walk on. There are many bars, restaurants and ice cream parlors. San Juan del Sur is really small; we’re talking about probably eight streets, not big at all. You can literally walk through San Juan del Sur in a couple of hours.

San Juan Del Sur itself is a very picturesque and colorful town. There ares quite a few little bars, restaurants, and places to go and check out. For me, the best sightseeing in San Juan Del Sur would be the beaches nearby, which is in the 10-kilometer range (a little over 6 miles) from San Juan Del Sur. A lot of them are still relatively virgin beaches and they have a lot of nature. There’s a lot of bird watching and nature watching in San Juan Del Sur, too.
