Formal clothing in San Juan Del Sur could mean wearing Sperry Topsiders, nice linen pants and a floral buttoned shirt or a nice tee shirt. If you are going to a wedding or any even like that, you can wear this ensemble and that is formal enough for a beach wedding.
It is pretty warm in San Juan Del Sur to be wearing a sports coat. I would say a long sleeved linen shirt would be the heaviest clothing you would want to wear because it’s so hot.
Women wear nice long dresses but in more of a beach motif. At weddings, women wear nice long dresses but they always take into account that they are at the beach so even their dresses look very relaxed.
As a real estate agent, when I go out to check lots and properties, I wear a polo shirt with our logo on it, khaki pants, and boots. There are no rules about clothing here. You wouldn’t find a place that wouldn’t let you in if you didn’t wear a specific type of clothing.
If you were to go to a traditional Nicaraguan’s home and let’s say you were invited for dinner, you may wear a long sleeved shirt. Try not to wear flip-flops but instead wear close-toed shoes. Your clothing doesn’t have to be fancy or extravagant, just decent or suitable for the occasion. Nicaraguans like to look good and we like our guests to look good, too.

In San Juan Del Sur, it’s very common to see women who are around their 20s walk around in a bikini and shorts. Guys wear their beach clothes such as shorts and tank tops. Older guys wear shorts and a simple tee shirt. Older ladies wear sun dresses or a shorts and shirt ensemble.

You can go basically anywhere in San Juan Del Sur in beach clothing. There are no restrictions at all. It’s all up to you if you want to dress up to look a bit formal if you are going to a specific event or place. For example, if a guy is going to El Timon, which is a high-end restaurant in San Juan Del Sur, he may choose to wear linen pants and a short-sleeved shirt.
You would dress up a little for formal events or places but you don’t have to, since there are no rules on dress code. Generally, nobody has to dress up to go anywhere. You can even go to the bank or any government office, and still wear shorts, tank tops, and flip flops. Some people even go around barefooted and it’s not a problem.

Because San Juan Del Sur is a surf town, the dress code is casual beachwear, but I think sometimes people forget that Nicaragua is a very Christian community and people should not be wearing their bikinis to the town, but should cover up.
There are not a lot of opportunities for dressing anywhere near formal in San Juan Del Sur.

The North Americans find it quite warm here in San Juan Del Sur so, they wear beach casual such as a shawl over a bathing suit, shorts and flip-flops. Their clothing choices is something to deal with the fact that it is ho, whereas the locals and the older women often wear skirts and blouses and, the local men in the surf industry wear pants and shirts.
There is almost no dress code, in a sense, because you can pretty much wear whatever you want anywhere you go. There is no place in San Juan Del Sur that will not accommodate you because you are not dressed to a certain standard.
Therefore, people feel comfortable in whatever they wear. It is only the locals that might feel uncomfortable if they see someone who is not well covered up so it is better to be a little more modest than you would be otherwise in order to make everyone else feel a little more comfortable.

The dress code in San Juan Del Sur is extremely casual. It is sunny all year. We have rainy season but even when it rains, it is still hot. The coldest that it ever got here was 18 degrees Celsius or around 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
It is always hot so you will not see anybody wearing a suit here in San Juan Del Sur. I like to wear pants at night when I go out to dinners but during the day, I always wear shorts and sandals and that is pretty much what everyone else wears, even...

It is always hot so you will not see anybody wearing a suit here in San Juan Del Sur. I like to wear pants at night when I go out to dinners but during the day, I always wear shorts and sandals and that is pretty much what everyone else wears, even the Nicaraguans. If they are working in construction, then they wear pants. Even women are casual; they wear shorts, miniskirts, and sandals.
I even conduct business wearing shorts and sandals and my clients wear shorts and sandals during our meetings. There is no dress code even in the banks or government offices. I only wear pants, a short-sleeved polo shirt, and closed shoes if I will go to a formal meeting. Women dress up a bit as well during formal meetings. They wear dress pants, blouses, or dresses.
There is no place that will not accommodate you if you are not dressed to a certain standard. There may be some that will not let you in if you are wet and full of sand from the ocean but even some restaurants do, especially the restaurants that are near the beach.

There are still opportunities to dress up and it depends on the holidays. For example, local people dress nicer on some holidays. Normally though, people wear beach clothes in San Juan del Sur.
