The closest destinations from Managua to go kayaking are Apoyo Lagoon and the Lake of Nicaragua in the Granada area.
Apoyo Lagoon is a great place to perform this activity due to its calm water during summer. You can also go kayaking in winter, but the waves are a bit bumpy. There are restaurants and hotels that offer kayaks for the day or for your entire stay.

In Granada some tour operators and hotels offer kayaking on the Lake of Nicaragua. The water is not rough and you can enjoy the natural environment of the Granada Islets while paddling.
There is one place in Nicaragua to do rafting, and that’s on the Tuma River in Matagalpa, in the northern area of Nicaragua and almost 3 hours away from Managua. Rafting can be performed during winter because the Rainy Season allows the river to be fast flowing. To really enjoy this experience, it is preferable to stay one night at Matagalpa.
