How's the hiking and camping in and around Managua, Nicaragua?
Diony Fuentes
There are several places in Managua where you can go hiking. One is Montevelli, which is a private natural reserve, although this is not the best hiking spot in terms of quality. For the best hiking experience, you can go to Chocoyero which is around 30 minutes away by car. You will see a beautiful waterfall in Chocoyero and get a nice view of the city, too. The name Chocoyero came from the word "chocoyo", which means "little parrot."

Another hiking spot in Managua is El Crucero, which is about 25 minutes away by car. This is the highest point in Managua, and it is where you can get a really nice view of the city.
It's very seldom that you'll find people camping in Nicaragua. Tourists like to go camping around volcanoes so you might see some tourists go camping, but Nicaraguans don’t do that very often.
