How are the roads in Managua, Nicaragua? Do I need a four wheel drive in Managua, Nicaragua?

The roads in Managua, Nicaragua (the capital city) are generally very good, so four wheel drive is not necessary. With that being said, however, if you plan on traveling outside the city, especially during the rainy season (our winters here) a four wheel drive vehicle is the way to go. The roads outside the city are not the best to travel on (they are being improved, but many still have huge potholes and are very bumpy.

The city streets in Managua are narrow and people seem to park on both sides of the street leaving little room for a larger vehicle to get through.
