What's the food like in the markets in Managua, Nicaragua?

The diversity of foods in markets in Managua has improved substantially and today one can find wide varieties of fresh foods, spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits grown locally, some organically, as well as excellent coffees, chocolates, meats fish and fowl.
(Pictured here are organic eggplants produced by one of our growers in a basket made of recycled paper.)

If you want to buy vegetables, you may find all tropical vegetables and basic grains produced in Nicaragua and some others imported. Be sure to pick them well because not all of them are always fresh, and of course, you must wash and clean them before cooking. Meat such as beef, pork, fish, chicken are also sold in the markets. But I do not recommend that you but them there, due to hygienic factors. Traditional cooked meals are also sold in the markets every day at midday. I do not recommend you buy them, also due to hygienic factors.
Finally, traditional sweet and salty snacks can be found on the markets (shown in the picture). Sweet snacks are called "cajetas" and are made of coconut, papaya, tamarind, or milk; salty snacks are made of corn. These I find delicious and healthy.
