How's the kayaking in and around Granada, Nicaragua and the rafting in and around Granada, Nicaragua?
Anthony Largaespada - Tierra Tour
There is kayaking around the Lake of Nicaragua, or as local people call it: Cocibolca Lake. There are options for beginners and for people with experience.
Be aware that conditions can vary, depending on the season. Normally November through January, it is very windy, but the rest of the year the water is pretty mellow. And once you are in the middle of the islands, the islands act as a windbreak, and then kayaking...

Kayaking or any other water sport suitable for the lake, as is the case for paddle boarding, can be a unique experience in Lake Cocibolca, a lake as big as a sea, that makes you forget you are navigating in fresh water.

In Lake Cocibolca (also known as Lake Nicaragua), you will go through the experience of paddling, while enjoying the majesty of nature, going through 365 small islands with lush vegetation and different types of birds (for those lovers of bird watching), with stunning views of the Mombacho Volcano that reminds us of the origin of these beautiful islands, most of them inhabited, and the history that lies at its edge, full of stories of pirates and invasions that make Granada a city to discover!

Kayaking in Lake Cocibolca, Granada is a great experience. There are many routes you may take, depending on the season and difficulty level. Also, you may choose to kayak by yourself or do it with a local guide (recommended) so you feel more secure.
In order to rent a kayak, you have two options. You either go to a Nicaraguan tour operator or you go to Asese Port, Granada. The price per hour is around US $10-$20, depending on your provider. I greatly recommend not to go...

In order to rent a kayak, you have two options. You either go to a Nicaraguan tour operator or you go to Asese Port, Granada. The price per hour is around US $10-$20, depending on your provider. I greatly recommend not to go for the cheapest nor for the most expensive. Be careful in choosing from whom you rent the kayak and of the guide you select.
Easy level means around 45 minutes to 1 hour kayaking on the lake. Intermediate level means from 2-3 hours; and advanced level may take up to 6 hours or more. Be it the level you choose, during your time kayaking, you will witness beautiful landscapes, including the Mombacho Volcano, the 365 islets on the lake, the colonial city of Granada, and of course, local flora and fauna. Additionally, if you contract a specialized guide, you may do some bird watching, as well.
I really recommend you do have this kayaking experience on Lake Cocibolca, as it is refreshing, adventurous, and unique.
