There are lots of things that you can do in and around Granada. People often go hiking on the Masaya Volcano. People also go to Masaya at night and check out the bat caves. You can also go to Volcan Mombacho, which has a forest at the top where you will find glass-winged butterflies. Another nice adventure trip would be to the Isletas de Granada. When Mombacho blew up a million years ago, it spread out these little islands on the lake. There is kayaking and boat trips around those islands. There are also trips out to Ometepe island, which is the largest fresh water island in the world. Ometepe island is on Lake Nicaragua, which is the tenth largest freshwater lake in the world. There is some amazing hiking and great waterfalls to visit in Ometepe. When you go to Ometepe, you will also find Ojo de Agua, which is a crystal clear spring where you can go swimming. It is stunningly beautiful. It used to be cooler back in the days, before there was anything there. It used to be just au naturel, which is my favorite, but now Ojo de Agua is a little bit developed but it is still worth going to. Now, it is convenient and it is easier to get to Ojo de Agua. There are hammocks and you can buy coconuts with straws in them. That is probably one of the better destinations in Granada.
Not too far from Granada, you can volcano boarding. You hike up the volcano and you go down just like you would on a snow board.
The adventure travel in and around Granada is AMAZING! I love it.

Granada, Nicaragua is blessed with
an amazing location. You can travel to the town of Masaya, renowned for its native Nicaraguan handcrafts and to the Pueblos Blancos (White Towns), which are picturesque villages, only twenty-five minutes away.
And only 1 1/2 hours away from Granada, is one of the most beautiful beaches in Nicaragua "San Juan del Sur."

We have a lot of adventure travel here in Granada such as fishing, canopy zip-lining, hiking in the mountains, going to Lake Apoyo (pictured), exploring Ometepe island, surfing and swimming, etc.
I have seen people who rent boats who will take you to the lake where you will see other islands. You can also go bass fishing on the lake. They also hold international championships for bass fishing and a lot of people love that.

You can also go to San Juan Del Sur and go fishing, then later on on the same day, go back to Granada. You can arrange to rent a boat and a captain. They also rent out fishing equipment and you pay them per day. I think is about $50 per day.
There is a company called Canopy that is very famous for their tours in Mombacho Mountain. You will see big groups of Americans and Europeans do that. They take people out to see wildlife high in the volcano. They take you from one tree to another tree flying, looking around. It is a very cool experience. Locals are also using that service now. It is no longer just only for tourists.
You can take a boat from Rivas island to Ometepe, which will take probably an hour. The water around the island is very nice and the sightseeing is very lovely. The government recently built a new airport over there. You can go hiking, but the place is not well developed so it might be a rough environment. You can also go kayaking in Ometepe.
There are some expats who are already living there. They own businesses and farms because they like being close to the lake. It is a place for a person of a specific character because to live in an island is a lot of work. Ometepe is not fully developed. It is going very slowly, but it is moving forward.
