How are the stores and shops in Granada, Nicaragua? How's the shopping in Granada, Nicaragua?

Shopping in Granada, Nicaragua has improved so much in the past ten years. I remember when I would have to have people bring me peanut butter and zip lock bags as I could not get them here. Now, there are two really nice grocery stores as well as pharmacies, hardware stores and countless shoe and variety stores. You can find almost anything you want in Granada but there are times you may have to make a trek into Managua.

I do have to warn you, there are no one stop shopping places like Wal-Mart or Target in Granada. If there are several things on your list, you may have to go to several different places to get them. For instance, you need a shower curtain, vitamins, a print cartridge and AA batteries. This means you would need to go to a pharmacy, a computer store, a department store and a variety store for those four items. It makes for a long day!

The shopping in Granada, Nicaragua has gotten a lot better than it was 10 years ago. There are a wide variety of restaurants, clothing stores and art galleries. I’d say most of the major grocery stores from Managua are located here in Granada.
You can buy pretty much whatever you need on Granada. For more significant shopping and variety, you would go to Managua, which is a little more than a half hour away by car.

In Managua, you have the two major shopping malls. The picture above is of Multicentro Las Americas in Managua. Compared to the United States, they’re just OK, but there’s really no comparison. The malls in Managua might have 30 or 40 stores at the most.
The shopping in all of Nicaragua is very limited, regardless of if you’re in Managua, Granada, or San Juan del Sur. You can buy the basics, you can buy most of the electronics that you need, but we don’t have a wide variety specialty stores like furniture stores. There may be two or three, but you simply can’t compare that to the United States at all.

I have one word for the shopping in Granada, Nicaragua: boring. There are not many options in Granada for people who enjoy good shopping. I recommend that people who enjoy shopping go to Managua, which is about 40 minutes away by car.
Granada has very basic shops, with very basic items such as clothes, shoes, beds, TVs, stoves and small appliances. The stores in Granada are good enough to resolve your every day, standard issues, but that’s it. If...

I do not see Granada, Nicaragua as a shopping destination. There are small boutiques or stalls in the park where some people from the market sell things. The things they sell in the park are typical locally produced items. If you need to shop for something specific or if you need a specific brand, you will not see any shop that offers that in Granada.

If you want to go to a mall, you would go to Managua, which is about 45 minutes away by car. The malls in Managua are very similar to the ones you will find in Florida. If I want to go shopping for clothes, you could find some local stuff in Granada. There are some boutiques. But if you want to go to a mall type of shop you have to go to Managua.
In Granada, there are supermarkets that have everything. You have two brands of supermarkets and if you need a Home Depot, there is one here, too, where you will find anything you need for the house. Basic things are available in Granada, so you don’t really have to go to Managua if you only need some basics. But if you are looking for brands or if you are looking for something that you will find in the US or some jewelry, you have to go to Managua.
