How are the restaurants in Granada, Nicaragua?

Fifteen years ago when my husband and I first visited Granada, Nicaragua, we almost starved! Now, there are so many restaurants with such a variety of food that it is mind boggling. I learned to make many Asian dishes in my restaurant because there were no restaurants who offered such fare. Now, we have two Chinese restaurants, a Japanese, a Mediterranean, several Italian places, Mexican and Tex-Mex, Peruvian, an assortment of American Bar food, lots of Continental and, of course,...

I learned to make many Asian dishes in my restaurant because there were no restaurants who offered such fare. Now, we have two Chinese restaurants, a Japanese, a Mediterranean, several Italian places, Mexican and Tex-Mex, Peruvian, an assortment of American Bar food, lots of Continental and, of course, Nicaraguan. There are several good pizza places and everyone has their favorite, depending on if you are a thin crust or a thick crust lover. What I want, and hope and I am sure it is coming, is a Thai restaurant with sweet Thai tea and a really good Pad Thai.

Restaurants in Granada are AMAZING!
We have a different restaurant for each taste.. Many Pizza places, Mexican food, Japanese, Thai, Arabian, breakfast American style, Italian, Nicaraguan typical food (of course).
We have almost everything in one single street: La Calzada.

Some of the nice restaurants are located along Calle La Calzada and Calle Atravesada but that’s not the only place. As the population of Granada has grown, and as its popularity as a tourist destination has grown, there are more and more restaurants, and they are locating in many different areas of the city. You have many different options.
In Granada, you could get Italian, seafood, meat restaurants, international, Spanish cuisine, French cuisine, etc. There are no fast-food restaurants like McDonald’s or Burger King here.
Going to the best restaurants in Granada would cost you about US $25 per person, including one drink. If you wanted to eat less expensively, you could, for example, go to the park and purchase vigoron from the vendors there. Vigoron is a typical food in Granada that you can get for $5. Vigoron is a combination of the hard part of the pork, which is the chicharon. It also has yucca, tomatoes, and cabbage.

Restaurants in Granada? Wow, we have so many restaurants and variety that it's a little crazy that all these businesses can exist. We have many local restaurants that serve local foods from breakfast to lunch and of course dinner. We venture out and try a variety to see what is really available. The Calzada, which we call the entertainment district, has restaurants that cover Thai, Spanish, Tex Mex, Pizza, waffles, and much more, including the local vigaron dish.

We suggest you to venture out to the side streets and further and visit some local burger joints that are out of this world, such as La Fronterra, one of our favorite hangouts with excellent service and food to die for. This place is what we would call back home a hole in the wall or a dive. Don't worry about the facade, it's amazing inside..... rustic but the food is first class and priced well.
Another great place is La Hacienda; excellent service with great bar line up and well priced drinks and food. Ivan is a amazing bar tender. If you travel outside of Granada visit Furniture Row and you will find great local selection such as Mi Rancho Viejo and La Casona. Most of the restaurants have a Facebook page and our new favorite place to eat a well priced breakfast is Nicafe, which is located at Hotel Real La Merced.
So go out and enjoy. You will not only be pleased but every new place you visit will offer something special, and do go off the beaten path where you will find great food and service!!!!
