What's the crime rate in general in Granada, Nicaragua?

Nicaragua is a poor country so crime does exist. The good news is that it is normally petty crime and most can be avoided by thinking smart. Don't leave things unattended in your car; don't leave your purse or camera hanging on the back of a chair; use an over-the-head-and-shoulder strap on your purse and camera case; don't flaunt your money or jewelry; take taxis after dark.

Granada does not have drive by shootings or gang violence. Child kidnappings are nonexistent. All the horrible things I see while watching the news from the United States just don't happen here.
Granada, Nicaragua is the perfect place to raise my eight year old son. He can do all the things I did at his age like ride his bike to the store or the neighbor's house; play and sleep overnight in his tree house; run around the neighborhood unattended; go to the park for ice cream with his friends. Is Nicaragua safe? Nicaragua has been ranked as the safest country in Central America and I whole heartedly agree.

Granada is a very safe city and the crime rate here is very low. As a woman, I feel safe walking alone in Granada but I do not walk alone at night after 10 PM. After 10 PM, I would walk with a group of friends or with my husband.,

There is a couple of streets and some neighborhoods in Granada where you have to be careful when you are walking at night. If you are only visiting Granada, you probably would not end up in those places anyway, because those are not tourists areas. If you are an expat who lives in Granada, you would know about these places and you wouldn’t go there.
If I would compare the crime rate in Granada with the crime rate in Managua, I would say it is safer in Granada because when I go to Managua, I do not feel safe at all; even in the morning. More than a million people live in Managua, since it is the capital of Nicaragua, so the crime rate there is also very high compared to other places in Nicaragua. There is a lot of accidents on the road and robberies, too.
I do not feel safe in Managua, whether I am by myself or with somebody else. I do not wear my jewelry when I go there, and instead, I wear my fake accessories. But when I am in Granada, I wear my jewelry without any problem.
