In general the local water in Granada is not considered to be completely safe by most standards. It is recommended to drink bottled water or water which has been boiled.

The water in Granada,Nicaragua is not completely safe to drink.
We as Nicaraguan are used to drinking the water in Granada. You can brush your teeth and do the laundry with that water.
For drinking, I would recommend you buy a filter or buy purified water for only US $2 for a big bottle.

It is safe to drink the water in Granada but just like the food here, you have to get used to it. When you drink the water here for the first few days, you might have some stomach discomfort because you are not used to it, but later on you will not have that discomfort anymore.

Our water in Granada is drinkable because the government has a program that cleans and treats the water so that it is drinkable straight from the faucets. I can drink the water in Managua and in Granada because it is clean and it is good. I can drink the city water, but if I go and drink the water in the countryside, which comes from deep wells, I might get some discomfort because that water is not controlled by the government and it has not been treated.
Some people might suggest that you buy purified drinking water; the ones sold in plastic containers. But generally, we don’t have issues with the water being polluted or contaminated. The water in Granada is safe, but if you are from a different country, until such time that you get used to the water, you may feel a little bit queasy, but after you become used to it, and you don’t have any other health issues, it should be fine.
