If I live in Nicaragua, do I still have to file my US taxes?
Mike Cobb - ECI Development
If you are living in Nicaragua you must still file a US tax return. Whether you owe taxes or not is a different story. Under Section 911 of the US tax code some forms and amounts of income are excluded, but no matter what, a return must be filed every year.

Be aware that beginning this last July 1, the banks in San Juan del Sur Nicaragua will be reporting all bank activities involving $10,000 US dollars or more. I would suggest talking with you local accountant in the US. Regardless where you live, you will still need to file your tax returns.

If you live in Nicaragua, you still have to file your US taxes. The US taxes universally. So even if you weren’t to move here in Nicaragua, wherever else you would go, you would still have to file your taxes, even if you don’t owe any money.
If you make less than a certain threshold, you’re not legally obligated to file, but in the end if you were to file, it would be the correct thing to do.
