Do I need to own a car in Yucatan: Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen, Cancun, Merida, etc?

If you want to live in Yucatan, you would want to own a car. Oftentimes, what happens is when people decide to live here in Yucatan, they say that they want to take public transportation such as buses or taxis. In my personal opinion, I think you should buy a car and enjoy Yucatan.

When you take buses, it will take you from where you take pick it up to wherever they drop you off, and you have a pretty limited walking area from there to get to where you want to go. You would also always be looking at the clock to make sure you don’t miss the bus coming back. For example, If you want to go to a cenote and you want to stay there all day, you would not want to take a bus that’s just going to get you there at a certain time and come back at a certain time, and be constantly watching the time. Alternatively, if you get in your car and just go out to explore, such as going to Merida, for example, you can go there at any time and stay for as long as you like. You can spend two months exploring Merida. I have been here for 3 years and I could say I am just now at the point where I may have seen half of the city. I have a car and I drive an incredible amount, plus I am in the real estate business and I have seen probably only half of the city. There are so many different places where you can dive by and say “Oh my God! Look at that…” I can go by a little tienda on the corner, for example. These are little things that you miss if you didn’t have a car. You want transportation and you want to go wherever you want to go, when you want to go.
A lot of people come down here and they try to live on really tight budgets but having a car is one thing that you don’t want to leave out of your budget.
