Yes, taxis are readily available in San Miguel de Allende and they’ll take you wherever you need to go. If you hail a taxi on the street, they usually charge 40 pesos (US $2) to go from one area of San Miguel to another. At night, they charge higher but they would take you wherever you want to go. For example, if the regular rate is 50 pesos ($3, at night, they would charge 60 pesos ($3.50).

It is quite safe to take a cab in San Miguel de Allende. I advise people that it is even safer at times to take a cab here than to just walk, especially for some neighborhoods, and especially at night.
Taxis here in San Miguel do not have meters so the driver will just tell you how much to pay. Not all taxi drivers speak English so they won’t carry on a conversation with you but they do understand when you ask them how much fare is and they will tell you. You could also give them a tip on top of the charge.
It is usually easy to find a cab in San Miguel except during holidays like Semana Santa. There are times when you will find an empty cab and you’d hail them but they won’t stop, while they may make a hand sign that they are on the phone. Some people misunderstand that as being rude that the drivers do not stop when they try to hail them on the street but what that means is that somebody called them and they are out to pick them up. That is the reason why they cannot take you because they will be late.
I don’t drive and a lot of times I just take cabs from the office and to wherever I want to go. When you go to the outskirts of San Miguel, it might be a little difficult to find a cab but you can always call one. For example, many people who live in Los Frailes, which is a little further out, call cabs to pick them up. We have clients who drive their cars from the US to San Miguel. They usually rent a house here and then they leave their cars in the garage.

Taxis in San Miguel de Allende are plentiful, and all you need to do is step off the curve and put your hand up, and they will stop. The taxi drivers in San Miguel de Allende are usually eager to speak- they want to practice their English. They’re happy when you start to speak to them, and excited if you speak in Spanish because it shows them that you care enough about their country, their language, their culture that you want to learn Spanish. They’re happy when you start to speak to them, and excited if you speak in Spanish because it shows them that you care enough about their country, their language, their culture that you want to learn Spanish. Since I’m practicing my Spanish, I have had many conversations with taxi drivers where he’s speaking in English and I’m speaking in Spanish. I find these conversations enjoyable.
The taxi drivers in San Miguel de Allende are friendly. In fact, I’ve never felt unsafe with a taxi driver. I noticed that many times, Americans in San Miguel de Allende make friends with a particular taxi driver, and then tend to call him first if they ever need a ride.
In order to get a cab in San Miguel de Allende, you can always hail one along the street, but if you have a longer trip of 10 minutes or so and it’s worth waiting for your driver to come to wherever you are to pick you up, you can just call him. This also gives you the opportunity to get to know the taxi driver or his family. The taxi drivers in San Miguel de Allende are safe, pleasant, and the taxis are spotlessly clean inside and out.
The taxis in San Miguel de Allende do not use a meter. To go most anywhere within the central area of San Miguel de Allende, it costs 35 pesos or maybe 40 pesos (less than US $2). In taking a cab in San Miguel de Allende, It’s always good to ask the driver about the price before you get in, especially if you’re going somewhere out of town.

Taxis are available in San Miguel de Allende. On an average, if you were staying in town, it would cost 45 pesos (US $3). It’s around 45 pesos it seems no matter where you go. If, on the other hand, you’re coming from downtown to Los Labradores (about 10 miles from downtown, which takes about 20 minutes), it would cost 150 pesos (US $7.50). I have been asked to pay a lot more, but I just passed them up. Normally, they will agree to do it for 150 pesos.

I’m happy with that service so much so that so far I haven’t even driven my car to town. There’s a taxi driver named Ruben who I call pretty much every time who also services other people here in Los Labradores.
