How's the ecotourism in and around San Miguel de Allende?
Gretel Chazaro - Rancho Los Labradores
There’s a lot of ecotourism in San Miguel de Allende. We have companies that run adventure trips like horseback riding, rock climbing, hot air balloons, motorcycle riding, and summer camp for kids.
I once went on a horseback riding trip which was nice because they take you to a small town here in San Miguel de Allende and you’ll see a small ranch and see how less fortunate people live and make a living. They make their own tea, they have their...

I once went on a horseback riding trip which was nice because they take you to a small town here in San Miguel de Allende and you’ll see a small ranch and see how less fortunate people live and make a living. They make their own tea, they have their own chickens, or a cow. These people will make food for you and take you to the mountains on your horse and then you can run or just walk around and enjoy nature. They will also take you to the river or just go hiking. That was a lot of fun for me.

Jonathan Peters - Ventanas de San Miguel
The ecotourism in San Miguel de Allende is growing and has been given more emphasis. There is a company that does ziplines up in the mountains and there is a lot of horseback riding and hiking as well. I hear more and more people do rock climbing and mountaineering and as San Miguel de Allende matures as a tourist destination, the activities have branched out covering more areas. There is a company that does ziplines up in the mountains and there is a lot of horseback riding and hiking as well. I hear more and more people do rock climbing and mountaineering and as San Miguel de Allende matures as a tourist destination, the activities have branched out covering more areas. Ten to fifteen years ago it would have been difficult to come up with activities, but now there is an abundance of activities involving nature in San Miguel de Allende. My family would fly in from the States and they have to sift through all their options because there are so many things you can do now in San Miguel de Allende.
Aside from the horseback riding and hiking, the ATV tours are really fun in San Miguel de Allende. There are a lot of mining trails and some ruins to go to. As far as going out into nature, there are a lot of people engaged in nature photography as well. My favorite thing to do in San Miguel de Allende is to go to what they call balnearios (natural hot springs) which is less than ten minutes by car from Ventanas de San Miguel. Sometimes there'll be cooler balnearios and some are just piping hot. You feel like you're going somewhere a long way away for a night or two but you're only fifteen minutes out of from your house and you save eight or ten hours that might take to get somewhere else. Going to the natural hot springs in San Miguel de Allende is a lot of fun for kids and adults.
