How is the dental care in San Miguel de Allende?

Dental care has been an interesting industry in San Miguel de Allende in that we have had at least two national events for dentists in San Miguel de Allende. The latest one was led by some of the top dentists in San Miguel who have been notable figures in the Mexican dental industry and were able to bring in those national congresses of dentists.
Compared to the dental care in places where I’ve lived such as London, Barcelona, and Munich, the dental care here in San Miguel de Allende is just a fraction of the cost and you will get a much better service here. Dentists and physicians here in San Miguel de Allende are much more human so they would become your friends and you would know that they really care.

I’ve had lots of work done such as teeth replacement, repairing cavities, and in my experience, the dental care in San Miguel de Allende has been great. I pay 500 pesos to get my teeth cleaned, which is around US $25. If I had my teeth cleaned in the US, it would cost me around $160. That was the price in the US to get your teeth cleaned when I came here 12 years ago so it might be $250 now. I had a crown here in San Miguel that cost around $200, which costs about $1,500 in the US.
My dentist is great. I love her and I have been going to her ever since I’ve been here. If you go to a dentist and you didn’t like the job, you could go and find another one. Some people even go to Celaya or Leon or other cities to find better dentists. Celaya is an hour away from San Miguel de Allende and Leon is an hour and a half away by car. Some go to Queretaro, which is about an hour away from San Miguel. Queretaro is a big city that has first grade dental care available at very low prices. Queretaro is the fastest growing city in Latin America. It is also one of the biggest cities in Mexico.

I am absolutely satisfied with the quality of dental care in San Miguel de Allende and the costs are similar to general medical care here, which is a lot less than what the cost would be in the United States.

Three years ago, I came out of retirement and opened a dental clinic here in San Miguel de Allende in order to help my dental charity treat the poor and elderly. I am still amazed that fees are so low. For example, in my practice in the USA, my fee for a porcelain to metal crown was $1,500 USD. Here its around $350.00 USD.
Americans coming to Mexico for treatment get value for money. Most dentists here use the same materials that US dentists use and still the cost is much lower here. I for one use only ADA recommended materials in my clinic.
I know that some Americans coming here for treatment bring their own gloves and needles. Most dentists have up to date equipment and good sterilization so no need to be afraid.
I spend a lot of time in Texas which is the Medicaid capital of the world and it amazes me to see elderly Americans walking around without teeth because they cannot afford high cost of dental treatment. This really breaks my heart. I say that they should all take a 7 day trip to Mexico (and in particularly, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, which was voted the Best City in the World by Conde Nast in 2014) and have their dental treatment taken care of.

A medical visit generally costs about 600 pesos ($31 USD) and my dentist spends 90 minutes to provide a very thorough dental cleaning procedure! And the signs are generally more professional than this smile-inducing sign here!
