Are there rivers, lakes and waterfalls in or around San Miguel de Allende?

We have a public reservoir or presa in San Miguel de Allende. Some people go out there to boat or kayak, but it really isn’t a place where there is a lot of boating or fishing. There are no docks, landing areas or boating businesses around the reservoir.
People do have homes around the reservoir because it offers beautiful views.

Yes there is a presa (a dam) in San Miguel de Allende. One presa is a big one and the other is a bit smaller and they are both used to supply water to San Miguel. Some people go swimming in the reservoir, however I do not think it is safe to swim there.

We also have a river running around San Miguel. San Miguel is hilly so the water starts from the top and goes all the way down. There are also lots of natural fountains here in San Miguel de Allende. The water from these fountains comes from an underground river and they don’t have pumps. You will see people take water from some of the fountains around the city and they use it for their houses.
There is also an area called lavaderos, which is in the middle of river. It is like a big water tank and the women go there to wash clothes by hand. There are six tubs so six women can wash their clothes at the same time. The water comes an underground river. Some of the rivers are closed. Two of them are open but these two are usually dry in the summer.
There is a botanical garden in San Miguel de Allende called El Charco del Ingenio. They have a small dam there and during the rainy season, the dam overflows and it looks like a natural waterfall.

There are no waterfalls in San Miguel de Allende that I know of. There is the Laja River, which is outside of San Miguel. There are two water reservoirs here. One is at El Charco del Ingenio, which is a preserved area that you can hike in but you cannot do any water sports in that small body of water. The other reservoir, which is a little bit outside of town is the Presa where you can actually go kayaking but you cannot swim in it.
