What are the outdoor activities in and around Chapala and Ajijic, Mexico?

There are lots of outdoor activities in Chapala and Ajijic for expats. You could meet at cafes and have your coffee outside with your friends. You could also go and listen to mariachi music in the Real Chapala Hotel, which is located in La Floresta right in front of the lake. It is a nice fancy hotel, which is really expensive for my standards. They have an open area where you can have a buffet, talk with your friends and enjoy the weather. You could also go dance outside.

You can also go kayaking here in Chapala and Ajijic. There are several kayaking you can join. I was invited to join but I didn’t have the time to do it but I would love to. I did it twice and I got wet but it’s really exciting.
You could also go hiking in La Mesa Del Ocote, though it is a little bit far; about 4 hours away from Chapala and Ajijic. It is very exciting. You can camp there, take your tent, your food, and sometimes we even go there to do yoga. We stay overnight and come back the next day. It’s a good adventure.
Another nice outdoor activity here is going to Tepalo, which is a waterfalls area in Ajijic. It takes about 2 hours to hike up to the waterfalls from the gas station in Ajijic. Once you get there you can enjoy the cold water of the falls. You could also camp out. There are three different falls there.

One of the best outdoor activities in and around Chapala and Ajijic is hiking to the waterfalls in El Tepalo, Ajijic, but there are many other things to do as well. There are watersports on the lake, boat tours and jet skis. Mazamitla, a small Swiss styled town just around the bend in the lake, about an hour away. is a delightful day trip. Check out the town of Colima an hour and 1/2 drive away and home to an active volcano. Play basketball in Parque Christiania...

Check out the town of Colima an hour and 1/2 drive away and home to an active volcano. Play basketball in Parque Christiania every Wednesday nights. There are gymnastics classes and more than a few yoga studios and gyms, Pilates and private trainers available in gyms or who will work with you from home. Let’s not forget the golf courses or the trails that you can use for motor cross. Horse riding with plenty stable who rent horses and rides at night for the full moon celebration. Ultra-light enthusiasts buzz the lake, bike paths for enthusiasts, skate board parks and no doubt many more sports I have not mentioned.
