Where’s the best sightseeing in Mexico?

The best sightseeing in Mexico City is downtown where you will find the National Palace, which is the seat of the government. You will also find the Cathedral and many other colonial buildings, which were built around the 1700s and the 1800s. It is a beautiful place to go.

The Theater of Fine Arts is also in Mexico City, which is a beautiful building from the turn of the 20th century. You can also go to the area around Polanco, which is where we live, and there you will find the main park of Mexico City called Chapultepec Park. There are also a number of museums here such as the Anthropology Museum. The Anthropology Museum is a world-class museum with very nice architecture. It has objects from ancient Mexican civilizations. Many people don´t realize that Mexico City has more museums than any other city in the world (we go back and forth with Paris for top spot). You will also find very interesting modern art in this area of Mexico.
The other areas of Mexico City that are quite nice to visit are San Angel, which is an older part of the city where they have cobblestone roads. They have bazaar on Saturdays that is very colorful and animated. You can also go to Coyoacan, which is another old part of the city where you will find very nice churches and old cobblestone roads. Don´t miss a boat ride through Xochimilco, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its system of canals and hanging gardens.
There are many, many wonderful places to visit in the country – from colonial towns to big cities to beaches to architectural ruins. Something for everyone, without a doubt!

Alfonso Galindo - I Go Yucatan
The best way to view Mexico, which I’ve done several times, is literally to drive across it. You’ll see all these different climates from high mountain forest with pine trees to deserts, to tropical areas; it’s all here in Mexico. It really is a wonder to drive across Mexico and view all its terrain and different cities. I can’t tell you what would be best, because it’s all wonderful. You really have to experience it for yourself.

Here are the top three things you must see in Mexico:
- Mexican colonial cities. Best way to view Mexico’s colonial cities is go through the Pueblos Mágicos, which is a designation the secretary of tourism has given to some cities of special historical significance or meaning.
- You have to see the archeological sites. Teotihuacan, which is by Mexico City, is one of the most impressive archeological sites. It pre-dates even the formation of Mexico, be it under the Aztecs or as a republic. It’s been there forever; nobody knows who built it. It’s an amazing site. It’s the largest pyramid in the world and literally, you can fit Chichen Itza in the pyramid of the sun in Teotihuacan three times. It’s massive; like a mountain. It’s a shame that Chichen Itza received a “Seven Wonders of the World” designation. In my opinion, hands down Teotihuacan should have gotten the designation, but since it was voted on the Internet and that most Gringo tourists would come down from Cancun to go see Chichen Itza, now you know why Chichen Itza won.
- The third thing you must see and experience are Mexico’s beaches. We have beautiful beaches from Mexico’s famous Caribbean coast with its colored waters and white, flour-like sand, but we have great beaches in the Pacific as well, where you have the oceans smacking right into the Sierra Madre of the tropical jungles and they all offer great fishing.
