Even as you get closer and closer to the equator, if you go to the more mountainous regions, where you get some elevation in Mexico, you can get some mild temperatures. There are some very well-known expat communities in Chapala, in San Miguel Allende, and in Oaxaca, which are places that are located high up the mountains, where they get spring weather all year round. You can definitely get 75 degrees Fahrenheit all year round in these places.

There is another mountain around Mexico City called Montaña Iztaccihuatl. If you look at that mountain from the sky, it looks like a sleeping woman and that is why Montaña Iztaccihuatl is also known as La Mujer Dormida, which translates to “the sleeping woman”. It is pretty high as well. In Valle de Bravo in Estado de Mexico, there is a national park there called Nevado de Toluca where you will find a very beautiful lake and it’s another mountain that’s around 5,000 meters (17,000 feet) high. Many of the areas within Mexico are at elevation and with elevation, you get cooler temperatures. Many people are unaware that there are many places within Mexico where the temperatures are less than 80 degrees pretty much all year round.

Laguna Hanson is a lagoon that is also a part of Sierra Juarez. It is not that high and we have been there camping. Many kids go there during Holy Week and learn about nature and how to take care of trees so it is really interesting. It is now called Parque Nacional Constitucion de 1857 because it is now protected by the Federal government although locals still call it Laguna Hanson.
