Is there good fishing in and around Placencia, Belize?

There is a lot of good fishing in and around Placencia. There is a lot of people who come here to go fly fishing or to catch the grand slam, where they try to catch the permit, bonefish and tarpon in one day.

There is a lot of good fishing in and around Placencia. There is a lot of people who come here to go fly fishing or to catch the grand slam, where they try to catch the permit, bonefish and tarpon in one day.

 

There are also some people who just want to fish for food, like my husband does (pictured). He likes to go bottom fishing, and sometimes they go out by the reef trolling. You can also go fishing in the lagoon, but if you want to explore a little more, you just have to go for a couple of hours to Glover’s Reef, for example, where you can catch some snapper, grouper, barracuda and other kinds of fish. There is a lot of great fishing in Placencia.

We also have sport fishing for marlin. We have about four fishing tournaments being held here in Belize every year. It is not that much advertised as most places in the Caribbean, but Belize competes as one of the best places for tarpon, bonefish (pictured), and permit for catch and release fishing.
