Can I buy furniture in Placencia, Belize?

To buy furniture in Placencia, you have the option of going to Belize City or you can go out of Belize City and head to Dangriga or Belmopan. We have furniture stores in Dangriga and Belmopan where you can buy sofa sets, bed sheets, lamps, HD players, flat screen TVs, etc.
You also have the option to get the Mennonite people build custom-made mahogany or hard wood furniture for you. The Mennonite community is a 5-minute walk from where I work, and they deliver to Placencia....

If I went to the furniture shops to buy that closet, it would cost around $1,200.

Yes, you can buy furniture in Placencia. A custom furniture maker named Raegan has made tables and cabinets for me. He's made many of the beds, other furniture, and a lot of kitchen cabinets for people that I know. He doesn't have a storefront, so you just go to him and explain what you want and he designs it for you and makes it for you. He's a Canadian who married a Belizean woman, and they own a bar that's named after her, Yoli. He primarily does woodwork and she runs a little...

Belize, was a virtually a logging country, which is why the English settled here. The wood that is available in Belize is absolutely gorgeous and beautiful. Reagan mixes and matches for the furniture he creates. Sometimes, he creates furniture out of tree trunks and branches for people who really want something unusual.
I've had 3 furniture pieces made and designed for me by Raegan, and I was surprised each time with the price as it was lower than I was expecting him to say.
If Raegan is unavailable and you need some furniture, there are a couple of little places along the peninsula that sell some basic furniture. It is interesting that there used to be more of that, but over the years it has kind of dwindled down, so most of the people go up to Belize City or Belmopan to buy furniture. There's a very big store in Belize City, a 3-hour drive away. Belmopan, on the other hand, is 1.5 to 2 hours away from Placencia. There you can find basic furniture, as well as Mennonite furniture. Mennonites are known for making furniture. Mostly, they’re in the northern and central parts of Belize.

You cannot buy furniture in Placencia but you can buy furniture in Belize City, in Mexico, or you can ship down your furniture from a port in Florida or somewhere else. At our project, we have a person who works with every end owner, whether it is a home or a condo, if they want to ship their furniture and belongings from the States, Canada, or Europe. We also have several interior designers that the end buyer of a home or condo can work with at our resort.

You can buy furniture in Belize City, which is only about 3 hours away from Placencia by car or you can go across the border to Chetumal in Mexico. There are several handmade furniture stores in Mexico and a couple in Belize City. The other stores in Belize City work from different catalogues so they cover a scope from high end to medium end depending what you want. It is really about you doing your homework and spending a day in Belize City or a couple of days in Mexico. You can also get furniture in places like Guatemala, which is one of the countries that border Belize. Furniture in Guatemala is very nice.
My suggestion is to always keep things simple so for those people who do not have patience like myself, you could work with our logistics person for bringing down furniture from outside the country into Placencia, or you could work with one of our interior decorators, who works for a more reasonable price than the interior decorators in the States.
