What's the crime rate against Americans and other expats in Placencia, Belize?

I haven’t heard of anything recently about any American being attacked or robbed in Placencia. To put it straight, if something bad would happen, it would happen regardless of where you are and regardless of who you are; American or not. There are about 4,000 people in Placencia during the high season for tourism, divided roughly evenly between 2,000 locals and 2,000 foreigners. Criminals do not discriminate based on nationality.

The crimes committed toward Americans and other expats in Placencia tend to be crimes of opportunity. When I’m in Placencia, I typically hear about break ins of some homes and minor things taken. I rarely hear of muggings or Americans being attacked.

The people in Placencia are pro-American because Belize promotes tourism and tourism as well as real estate, which are very important factors contributing to the well being of the local population. Another reason why the people in Placencia are pro-American is because Belize uses British Commonwealth law that the people in Belize are English speaking.  Belizeans love the fact that Americans and other nationalities are in Placencia.
