Is Placencia, Belize safe?

Placencia is safe in general and it is safer than Belize City. Most crimes in Belize happen in Belize City because most that is where most of the money is. That is where a lot of banks are and that is where everyone goes to shop.
It is not like that in Placencia. Although we also have banks in Placencia, people know their surroundings and everyone knows almost everyone else; the locals in Placencia know each other. The retirees also mix with the local...

It is not like that in Placencia. Although we also have banks in Placencia, people know their surroundings and everyone knows almost everyone else; the locals in Placencia know each other. The retirees also mix with the local community so crimes happen less because you know who you are talking to or dealing with. Everyone is friendly when you are in a small community. You can even walk at night around Placencia and still feel pretty safe.

My husband and I never have any problems about Placencia being unsafe. We do not walk out at 1 AM, but even when we walk the streets at night, we never encountered any problems at all. The biggest problem we have in Placencia Village and in the peninsula itself is more of the petty crimes or petty thefts. Safety is also about being a responsible resident or tourist. You don’t just leave your laptop out on your patio on the beach side and go to the store or go inside and have lunch....

You just have to be a little more responsible.
We had house break-ins before, but compared to the crimes in the US, I do not think there is a whole lot of it here in Placencia. In Placencia Village, they have the village police and the tourist police. They also put up another police station on the peninsula, which was organized by the local residents in Maya Beach.
I think there is more crime in the States than there would be here in Placencia. I feel more comfortable walking here in Placencia by myself than I would if I were in Austin, Texas, where I come from.

Placencia is very, very safe. Of course, what little crime there is in Placencia will tend to take place in communities that are not gated. The crime in Placencia tends to be minor vandalism done to homes that are left vacant because a lot of homeowners aren’t there all year around.
All our projects are gated with 24 hour security, not because there is any violent crime but because we have a lot of part timers. Most of our part timers want the peace of mind knowing that...

There’s one road in and one road out of Placencia and there are two police stations within our projects. If a crime is committed, the culprits generally get caught.
There are no major crimes in Placencia. For 10 years, I’ve walked around Placencia at 1 AM and 2 AM and I never felt threatened. The people are friendly and happy in Placencia. They have money, are hardworking, and everyone speaks English. That makes a whole world of difference, in my opinion.

Yes, Placencia is a pretty safe place. Belize, in general, is a pretty safe country. Placencia is not over-populated, which adds to its safety. Also adding to its safety is that Placencia is a peninsula, with basically just one road in and out.
The majority of Belizeans who work in Placencia work in the service-based industries, such as airline service, construction, real estate, and tourism services. The dependence on these types of businesses provides...

The majority of Belizeans who work in Placencia work in the service-based industries, such as airline service, construction, real estate, and tourism services. The dependence on these types of businesses provides incentives for everyone to provide a safe area for all people who come to Placencia because the safer Placencia is, the more business comes to Placencia.
In general, I’ve always felt safe in Placencia, but like any other place, there are some areas that you wouldn’t want to go to late at night and as with anywhere there are certain types of activities and people to avoid.
In general be conscious of your surroundings and actions and you should not have any problems.
