Who are the residents of Placencia, Belize? Who lives in Placencia, Belize?

Placencia, Belize is made of families from the Monkey River who migrated here. They are called the Creole and they were the first ones here.

The Creole are more dominant here in Placencia village. (Miss Garifuna, pictured.) In Maya beach, I would say the expats are more dominant. We still have different cultures in different areas.

Most of the people who live in Placencia are locals. In the past, they were all fishermen and Placencia was a fishing village. There are also Creole in Placencia. When you go to Seine Bight, you will see Garifuna people. If you go more north to Maya Beach, you will see a lot of Canadians. The Canadians have been there for years, since many of them bought land there in the 1980s.

Placencia is now a melting pot of different cultures. You will see people who are black, white, yellow, etc. Some of them just went there and some of them were born in Placencia. The entire country of Belize is a melting pot of different people. Belize was a British colony and now we have Americans, Canadians, Belizeans, and many other nationalities living here.
Because Placencia is such a small town, you don’t have a choice but to live amongst different nationalities of people. I am French and there are not a lot of French people here, so I go anywhere and I am fine. Of course, if you are American or Canadian you will tend to live where most Americans or Canadians live as well, since there is plenty of Americans and Canadians here.
The Creole people stay together, but of course that doesn’t mean that people of different races are fighting. There is some fighting because of gossip and things like that, but that is not isolated to Placencia. That happens to any small village since people tend to wake up wanting to criticize their neighbors. However, when their neighbors get sick, they are there to pray for their neighbors and continue to love their neighbors.
