How much does it cost for a housekeeper or maid in Placencia, Belize?

Most people here in Belize actually do their own housekeeping on their property. In some cases you pay between US $100 to $150 for a maid to be at your house per week.

I do not have my maid come over to my place here in Placencia full time, so I pay her for whenever she comes to tidy up the cabana. I probably pay more than the average cost for a housekeeper in Placencia. Generally, you will pay around Belize $40 per day (US $20) if you want somebody to clean the house or do other tasks that you will assign for a full day.

Not a lot of people in Placencia have full time maids. Most people have a housekeeper come in only once a week, unless they have a resort. There are a lot of people that have built a caretaker’s quarters close to their house on their lot. The implied rent for the caretaker’s quarters is part of the caretaker's salary, so they get paid a lot less because they already have their housing, their electric and other utilities already being taken care of for them.
For some people, they just provide the housing and pay for the utilities and then their caretakers still go off and have some other little jobs. I met a couple just recently who had their caretakers for the last 12 years and they seem like they get pretty much everything they need.

Being a property manager here in Placencia, I employ my housekeepers per week, so their salary is a little bit different. I sometimes hire them on a daily basis. I think US $30 would be a great amount to pay a housekeeper, but unfortunately, I doubt that many people pay that much to their housekeepers here. If you retired in Placencia, you live here all year round, and you have a cleaning person who comes to your house once a...

If you retired in Placencia, you live here all year round, and you have a cleaning person who comes to your house once a week, then you would pay around $25 minimum for a day. That’s a regular working day, which is from 8 AM to 5 PM.
My housekeeper has been with me for many years, and she is the best. When I’m not in Placencia, she does cleaning at some of the resorts, so other people employ her. I strongly recommend her and encourage the people hiring her to pay her a good wage. Now, my housekeeper has her own 3-bedroom home in a small village and I am happy. She takes care of her son and she knows how to work and provide good service.

The cost for a housekeeper in Placencia, Belize is extremely reasonable. You can get a housekeeper who would come every day to clean, cook, and do other chores for $75 to $100 USD a week, and there are lots of people looking for that type of work.
Only one of our homeowners has a live in housekeeper, because the other homeowners don’t want someone to live with them. The housekeepers who work here generally live somewhere in Placencia. There are buses that go back and...

There are buses that go back and forth between the village and our project. If they don’t ride the bus, they take a bike, motorcycle or scooter.

We have our house cleaned every month or so by a "local". She is very happy to clean our house for $40 BZ (US $20). She also cleans our Guest House for $30 BZ (US $15) when we need it done. However, we have had another "local" girl clean the house for only $30 BZ. It usually takes her about 2 hours ,maybe 3 at best to finish the job.

Some local workers here in Belize will work all day at what I would call "unskilled labor" for $35 BZ (US $17.50). $50 BZ (US $25) is considered good pay for a day. $75 (US $37.50) or higher is when there is "skill" involved and the worker needs his own tools such as a carpenter or an electrician. Our auto mechanic gets $50 BZ / hour (US $25 / hour).
