There is no central air-conditioning here in Placencia. Electricity is very expensive, so you do not keep the air conditioning on in your house the same way you do in the US, for example. Here in Placencia, if you are going to have dinner or if you are going to a beach bar, the breeze if just beautiful and it seems that it is not hot at all.
We have really immersed ourselves in the community here in Placencia Village, but there are some expats, especially in other places on Placencia Peninsula, who build bigger homes, which are more like what you would build in the States. Some have air-conditioning in their whole house and some just put air-conditioning in their bedrooms.
The dry season is from February to April. During those months, we get the most visitors because everybody wants to be in the sunshine and wants to make sure that they are not coming in the rainy season. Most advertisements say that the rainy season is from June to November, but every year is different. We can get a great November now, but in the next year, it could be raining during the whole month of November. Well, it is Mother Nature, but for the most part, the weather in Placencia is always nice.
Comparing the temperature in Placencia to what it is like in Texas where I am from, the heat is more bearable here in Placencia, maybe because we are on the sea. The heat is bearable here during August and September, which are the hottest months of the year, but there is no way I could do it in Texas. The temperature here in Placencia is about the same as the temperature in Texas but it is just hot in Texas. They do not have this beautiful sea breeze, which lets you go out, sit and relax, and do whatever you want. In Texas, we go from our air-conditioned house to our air-conditioned cars, to air-conditioned Walmart, but it is not like that here in Placencia.

We have rainy season, but Placencia is very lucky because most of the time it only rains at night. It is very rare to get rain from 10 AM to 7 PM. This is not the same with the rest of the country.
Then there are months when it is extremely hot and humid, around May.
My favorite months are August and September because that is when it is very hot and the sea is flat and clear everyday. The beach in Placencia is always nicest from August and September. The water is crystal clear during these months.

The thing that’s nice about Placencia is because it’s a peninsula, the trade winds are blowing all the time. So even if it is very hot, it feels cooler because of the winds. I feel more comfortable in Placencia in the summer than in Fort Worth, where I came from, because Placencia is on the ocean and all that breeze that comes off from the ocean, which is very nice.
