What's the closest airport to Corozal and what are the flights to and from Corozal?

The flights to and from Corozal vary by what time of the year it is. They’re less frequent in the off-season or the hurricane season or the rainy season, and more frequent in the winter. There is an airstrip in Corozal and they are two airlines there: Maya and Tropic. Tropic has been in Belize since the early 80s and operates more flights in Belize than anybody. Maya is their only competition. They fly from San Pedro to Corozal. Right now, this time of the year, there’s...

Maya is their only competition. They fly from San Pedro to Corozal. Right now, this time of the year, there’s two flights in the morning and two in the afternoon and then you can connect through San Pedro and to the international airport.
When I fly from Dallas, there’s a direct flight on American into Belize City and depending on what our plans are we’ll hop over to San Pedro and spend the night and then go to Corozal the next day or we’ll get in the cab and go straight to Corozal, which is about a 2-hour drive. The cost is US $150, which takes care of them driving you up there and then turning around and heading back.
The airstrip in Corozal is just for domestic flights. Tropic does fly to Cancun, so you can fly or you can take a really nice greyhound type bus and they will take you to Cancun and then you can connect from Cancun to a lot of other places; from Canada to the US to whatever and it’s pretty cheap to fly into Cancun.

The closest airport to Corozal is in Ranchito, which is 2-3 miles outside of Corozal. It’s a local airport, not international. From the airport in Ranchito, you can go to Belize City, San Pedro, Caye Caulker, Placencia, and Belmopan, the capital. It’s a regional airport.
If you want to go to Punta Gorda, which is the southernmost town, and you jump on a plane in Ranchito, you would probably have to jump on another plane in Belize City and...

If you want to go to Punta Gorda, which is the southernmost town, and you jump on a plane in Ranchito, you would probably have to jump on another plane in Belize City and switch over.
Although there are no direct flights from Ranchito, you can still go anywhere. For example, if you want to go to the US, you can fly in to Belize City and take the airport out of Ladyville. So you fly from the local airport in Ranchito to Belize City, then you jump on an international flight to Houston, Miami, North Carolina, the major hubs.

The Corozal Airport is half a mile outside of the town, and the planes take off just over the southern end of town. From the Corozal Airport, you can fly to Ambergris Caye and on to any other airport within Belize. If you land at the Ladyville International Airport just outside of Belize City, you can take a flight via Ambergris Caye and land in Corozal in about 35-40 minutes.

You can go to Chetumal, which is in Mexico, just over the border with Corozal, and fly direct to Mexico City. There are currently two flights a day in Chetumal, and from Mexico City you can connect to anywhere in North America. From Corozal Town, it would be 15 minutes to the border. Chetumal is the closest Mexican town to Belize right on the border, and it’s a city of about 500,000 people, which is more than the entire population of Belize.
