Are taxis readily available in Corozal, and what do taxis cost in Corozal?

Yes, taxis are readily available in Corozal and they are easily identifiable because they have green license plates. There are higher end taxis that you could call in advance and they will come and pick you up. These VIP rentals and taxi services can go from Corozal to Chetumal for about US $60, which is a very good price for at least an hour’s drive.

I was without a vehicle for a while, so I experienced firsthand how the people here in Copper Bank pick up hitch-hikers all the time. It is not an issue. I had to go to the city a few times so I would just go out to the main road, which is a 5-minute walk. I would just stand there and people stopped. You don’t even have to stick out your thumb. They will take you into town and then you can grab a taxi and go all around town for $10 to $15. You can go from one end of town to the other for about $25.
A lot of people here in Corozal do not have cars and instead use bicycles or motorcycles. You would see motorcycles here with two or three people on it. I saw a guy not too long ago, on a 125 cc motorcycle who wasn’t wearing a helmet. He had a bag of groceries hanging on the handlebar of his motorcycle, a baby on his lap, his wife on the back, and he was talking on his cellphone. That is not uncommon. It is not to say that it is lawless here. There are checkpoints but they are basically looking if your vehicle is up to date on its registration and insurance.
But yes, taxis are readily available here and there is no issue. You can get taxis here in the district of Corozal but they are readily available in Corozal Town. You can stand anywhere and wave one down.
