Is there good fishing in and around Corozal?

There is exceptional fishing in and around Chetumal Bay (which is where Corozal is located) and if you go even out of the bay into the ocean area there is phenomenal fishing over there as well, not far from Ambergris Caye and San Pedro and that area. However, just locally right off the dock in Corozal is great, or just take a boat out and you’re probably pretty much guaranteed to catch dinner.

We went out in the morning with some friends in a small boat to sightsee and fish in the bay. We caught some grouper and several different varieties of other fish that we got cooked for dinner. It was a lovely experience. It didn’t cost anything because we went out in our friend’s boat.
I can’t remember the last time I actually did go out and fish and the experience was kind of right where I left off. I have done some fishing and caught salmon and in lakes in Washington state and caught cutthroat trout, so I do have some experience in fishing but it had been a while. That’s one of the reasons I was so pleasantly surprised because you hate to go out and stay all the day and not catch anything. At least I do. The purpose to go fishing is to sightsee and enjoy the company, but also to catch some fish, and we were able to do that.

There is good fishing in or around Corozal depending on what type of fish you're looking for. There are a couple of rivers that feed into the Corozal Bay.
There's snook and tarpon. In the bay itself, there are some groupers and snappers. If you really want the big variety of fish, then the reef is the place to go. Depending on the water conditions, it takes an hour or an hour-and-a-half to get to fantastic fishing sites where you can fly fish for bonefish or catch anything...

Depending on the water conditions, it takes an hour or an hour-and-a-half to get to fantastic fishing sites where you can fly fish for bonefish or catch anything that's a warm salt water type of fish. The snook, tarpon, and even barracuda that you could catch in Corozal Bay are all good for eating.
I go fishing a lot. It depends on what projects we have going on, but I own a boat so we try to fish at least a few times when we're down at the bay. If we're down longer, then we'll fish more. We eat our catch and they taste good. There's nothing like having a fish you just caught, cooking it up, and eating it. You can't get anything better than the flavor and texture of freshly caught fish.
