What are the expats like in Corozal?

I haven’t met an expat in Corozal I don’t like. I tend to like people anyway Corozal has really, really nice people.
Here’s a way to illustrate this. In Texas I might have 2 or 3 people I could call if I broke down on the side of the road in the middle of the night but I feel like most of everybody I know in Corozal would come to help me.

Well, there’s quite a number of expats in Corozal from Canada. It seems like more Canadians all the time are coming down. There are a good number of US citizens. Most are retired from some type of non-professional job; anything from a former prison guard to retired navy to school teachers-- that sort of thing. One of the things that attract them is the ability to stretch their pension dollars a whole lot further.
There are some young people but generally you’re not going to see anybody under about their 40s and up. There are not a lot of families, although some come. The school there is adequate but I don’t know that I would want to have my kids complete their entire education in Corozal. A year or two would be kind of neat and a great experience but if you’re getting college prepared, you probably want to do your high school especially in the States.

There are different kinds of expats living in Corozal. There are expats who came here to live as cheaply as they possibly can. Some of the expats here in Corozal are really good people, some of them help other people, and some of them hire people.

Here in Corozal, you see people of different colors at every restaurant you go to. For example, there are the Spanish people, the white people, the Chinese people, and the Mennonites. We don’t really think about what they’re like, actually. Everyone just exists- there’s no racism. Everyone likes each other. People get along.
There are restaurants here in Corozal that are targeted at expats, but most expats who live here in Corozal go to local restaurants. They go to play darts on a certain day, or they play games on certain days where they meet other expats.
Everyone hangs out with other expats and integrate with Belizeans. Everyone likes to have their expat day where they go drinking, play darts and do whatever they like to do. Each restaurant in Corozal has their own little cliques, and the expats like that feeling. There are Belizeans that they hang out with, too. Everyone lives among Belizeans. We’re all mixed together here.

In general, the expats in Corozal are adventurous. There are those who are surviving on a small pension, and there are younger people who have money, hang around for a while, and don’t have to worry about working.
Expats who are in Corozal vacationing are from all walks of life, from social strata. There are the “have’s” and “have-not’s.” All of the expats in Corozal seem to really enjoy themselves. They all have...

Expats who are in Corozal vacationing are from all walks of life, from social strata. There are the “have’s” and “have-not’s.” All of the expats in Corozal seem to really enjoy themselves. They all have their own reason for coming to Corozal. It may be because life is cheap, especially if they live like a local.
If you find a happy median, Corozal is a wonderful place to retire.
The expats here in Corozal are very sociable. The ones who fit in the best are the ones who learn how to communicate with the locals. After a while, they pick up local friends and they become assimilated into the country of Belize. They don’t remain as gringos that have barged into the place and are not trying to take over the country or anything like that- they want to be a part of the country.

Shouldn't we be asking a local that question instead of someone that makes there money off of expats?
