How much rain does Corozal get? When is the Rainy Season and the Dry Season in Corozal and what is it like?
Ed Parrish - Dumbbell Properties, LLC
In Corozal, the rainy season corresponds to our hurricane season. It starts about June, and ends about November. During this time, you could very well get some rain every day but it’s typically, and you’re going to get a couple of those tropical, depressions. But it may not rain don’t rain on you for 2 or 3 days but it’s hotter and more humid during that time of the year. It’s up in the 90s with 90% humidity, just like Houston or Miami.

But then, the dry season again starts in the middle to end of November and you may still get a little bit of rain in December but generally then things kind of dry out, the humidity drops down, and the temperature normally doesn’t. It normally stays in about the mid to upper 80s.
It can rain for normally not more than a couple of days at a time where you’ll have rain all day long but the normal weather pattern is just like it is in Florida, where I lived as well. You get your afternoon rain shower for anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and sometimes a little longer and sometimes those can be fairly heavy rains but then it clears out and that’s it.
Corozal gets less rain than some of the other areas in Belize, especially in the south, and near the Guatemala border. Punta Gorda and the Toledo District get a lot of rain but Corozal still receives adequate rain, the proof of which is we’re an agriculture area.

The rainy season here in Corozal, Belize is around June 1st to November 30th. We get about 60 inches of rain around Corozal annually while the southern part of Belize gets around 150 inches of rain in a year. The prevailing winds come from the southeast and it drives up over the country of Belize. There are a lot of days where it looks like it’s going to rain but we don’t actually get rain up here in the north. We still get a lot of nice, sunny days even in the rainy...

We still get a lot of nice, sunny days even in the rainy season so it is not terrible by any means.
There are times when we do get rains but it’s not miserable and it is not a reason for someone to avoid coming here during rainy season. There are times when it rains five times a day but in between those hours, it’s sunny. You can still swim in the pool in the rainy season. There are only a few times where we had rain for days but that doesn’t happen a lot. We usually have a low pressure system in the country during the rainy season but we don’t get it that much here in Corozal.

The weather in Corozal is great- we have the least amount of rain anywhere in Belize, and the rainy season is not a big deal. People think that during the rainy season, it starts raining on one day and ends six months later. That’s not the case.

As global warming has come on, the seasons have appeared to shift slightly. The last couple of years have been a little warmer but drier. During the first four years that I was here, we had periods of intense rain, so you could get an absolute downpour that you’d never see in the States.
In the summer, you’ll see blue skies with little white puffy clouds and beautiful breezes, and everything’s great. You don’t have to worry about what the weather is going to do to you. The incidence of hurricanes is approximately one could hit Belize about every seven years.
