How much do healthcare and medical services cost in Cayo, Belize, including San Ignacio and Belmopan?

We have the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital La Loma Luz in the Cayo District, Belize, which enables us to get cheaper medical services than in Belize City. Each service here in the Cayo District will have a different price but it’s very affordable.
It is difficult to compare the costs of healthcare in the Cayo District with a place like New York because, in New York, you will receive First World service and deal with highly trained people, while in La Loma Luz, but...

It is difficult to compare the costs of healthcare in the Cayo District with a place like New York because, in New York, you will receive First World service and deal with highly trained people, while in La Loma Luz, but you're not going to get the latest technology as compared to New York. However, just go give you some point of reference, if you had a procedure the could be done in Cayo with the same procedure in the US, and the procedure in Cayo cost a thousand US dollars, it would cost ten times that in the US, with the same medical outcome.

Here in Belize, I don’t have health insurance because the medical care in Belize is so cheap it is not really necessary for one to have it.
To get an x-ray ranges from $20 to $50 depending on what kind of x-ray you are getting. It’s not a lot of money. To get blood work done is around $100, depending on how extensive the blood work is.
I fell and broke my kneecap and I think if I spent $400 on everything, that would be a lot. But then when you think...

I fell and broke my kneecap and I think if I spent $400 on everything, that would be a lot. But then when you think about it, if I broke my kneecap in the US, I would probably have ended up doing the surgery and maybe spend $20,000 to $30,000.
Here in Belize, medical services don’t cost a lot of money. You get lab work results within a day or two. They have clinics here that you can go to where you can get much more help as far as treatments but still it doesn’t cost a lot.

If I go to La Loma Luz Hospital in Cayo, before I leave the emergency room, it’s probably going to cost me a little over $100 Belize (US $50). An x-ray is $40 Belize (US $20). You can have ultrasound, which is also about $40 Belize (US $20). I have an optometrist in La Loma Luz Hospital, which costs about $45 Belize (US $22.50). You are going to get your initial care very easily and very inexpensively. Going to a clinic here in Cayo costs $45 Belize (US $22.50).
Due to the outrageous cost of long-term care in the US I believe one of the biggest businesses that’s going to come into this country is the three stage care facilities. Independent living, assisted living and nursing facilities would open up the opportunity for people wanting to relocate to Belize and bring Mom and Dad with them. Not only would it be less expensive but the people working in the facilities would be more caring due to the close families here in Belize.
