Are there English-speaking doctors in Cayo, Belize, including San Ignacio and Belmopan?
Gwido Mar - Grupo Mar Realty Ltd.
Yes, there are many English-speaking doctors in the Cayo area in Belize. Part of the reason is that many doctors in this area are actually Belizean doctors, and the official language of Belize is English. The doctors in Cayo tend to be bi-lingual, speaking both Spanish and English.
Many of the doctors here in Cayo are native Belizean doctors. They were born here, they grew up here, and maybe they studied medicine either in the U.S., Guatemala, and Mexico.

There are also Cuban doctors in Cayo. When they first arrive they may not know English but if they spend several years here, eventually they learn English.
There are also American doctors here in the Cayo district. Some of the private hospitals have US doctors. For example, there's a private hospital in Santa Elena (one of the two main towns in Cayo) called La Luma Luz Seventh-Day Adventist Hospital that has US doctors.

Majority of the doctors in the Cayo district are English speaking. There are some Cuban doctors and they speak some English but not fluently. They would explain themselves in a way that a patient could understand what they were saying. My mom works at the hospital, so I'm pretty familiar with the ins and outs. If you see a doctor here in Cayo, you would understand what they are saying and if you can't, there's somebody at the hospital that would translate for you.

Some doctors might not speak English fluently but that would be the only reason that you might not be able to understand. The majority of the doctors can speak English fluently. The staff speaks English fluently as well.
English is the official language of Belize. That's the language that is taught in school and business is conducted in English.

Most of the doctors in Cayo speak English. Usually, doctors are bilingual because English is the official language of Belize, but the native language of the people from the villages is Spanish. The staff in the doctor’s offices normally speak English as well.
I am German and there’s only very few Germans in Belize. The Mennonites, who live here in Belize, are of German descent but they speak a very old dialect that I don’t even...
