If you want someone who is a skilled gardener in San Ignacio, it’s going to be more expensive because they will probably need their own vehicle and bring in their tools. You will probably end up spending more like $40 to $50 for one day, during which they will trim flowers, plants, and trees, but it will not be for a whole 8-hour day.

We pay for gardeners once a week or so. Gardeners are pretty inexpensive here in Cayo but they would do whatever you ask them to do. They're very honest people.

The cost to get a gardener in the Cayo area is around US $70 to $95 a week. It’s the same as the cost to get a gardener anywhere in the country of Belize.
The price also depends on the skill of the gardener you are getting. Some have actually studied the craft while some just studied at home.

The salary of gardeners in Cayo depends on how skilled they are. A helper or a beginner would get around $30 to $35 Belize (US $15 to US $17.50). A skilled gardener earns around $60 Belize (US $30) per day.

There are lots of skilled and motivated people here in Cayo but after all, we are in a Caribbean country. Part of the Caribbean culture is being laid back so you should also expect a laid back attitude with lower productivity than you would expect in North America. The quality of the work varies on a case-by-case basis. You have to search for a while for someone who does good quality work. Most of the time, your first gardener won’t be your last one.
Usually, you would have to supply the tools that the gardeners need to do their job. Some of them bring have their own tools, but these gardeners are usually the ones who charge more.

I have a couple of gardeners and a maid here in Cayo. The maid works 6 hours a day and receives $30.00BZ for the day (US $15). She only washes windows when my gardener helps her with the screens but she also helps with cooking and dishes when she has time.
Both of my gardeners speak fluent English and are very dependable. One receives $40 BZ (US $20) a day for working 8 to 9 hours a day. He can use a weed eater, a lawn mower, and a...

Both of my gardeners speak fluent English and are very dependable. One receives $40 BZ (US $20) a day for working 8 to 9 hours a day. He can use a weed eater, a lawn mower, and a machete. My other gardener has a little more education and can do just about anything including fixing the equipment. He makes a good foreman when we have a small crew and he can work just about any phase of construction. He receives $50 Belize ($25) a day.
$25 to $40 Belize (US $12.50 to $20) is the average price that people here pay gardeners. The less expensive gardeners are usually legal or illegal Guatemalans that do not speak English. They will work for 8 to 9 hours a day and generally know how to run a weed eater, chop the weeds, and use the lawn mower but are a higher risk factor. Most do not have permanent homes or families here and they are the highest risk for your personal safety and theft. Native Belizeans are meek, family oriented, peaceful people that can become your best friend.
