Where are the best beaches in and around Ambergris Caye?

There isn’t much in the way of beaches in the center of San Pedro (the main town on Ambergris Caye), but there might be a bigger beach in Ramon’s Village, which is in the southern area of San Pedro. We also have Banyon Bay, which is a 20 to 25-minute walk from San Pedro. There is another beach, which is north of San Pedro, called Belizean Shores.

Ramon’s Village is about a 10 to 15-minute walk from downtown going south. Blue Tang resort is very close, too. If you are flying in from Belize City, you go north from the airstrip for about 10 to 15 minutes to reach Blue Tang and 5 to 10 minutes to reach Ramon’s. Ramon’s has a bigger property, so their beach is bigger, too.
Belizean Shores is a really nice beach where you could lay around. Belizean Shores is a little bit farther from San Pedro. In order to go there, you have to go north and cross the bridge. There is a charge to cross the bridge if you are in a golf cart, but is it easier to go to Belizean Shores in a golf cart because it takes about 25 minutes from San Pedro.
Each beach resort here in San Pedro has a dock in front of it. All of the beaches here in Ambergris Caye are the same (pictured above). They just differ in size based on the size of their properties. You have to be aware that there is sea grass all along the coast of Belize, which helps preserve our marine life. So if you are expecting clear beaches where you could go in, you might not find it here. But if you are looking for stretches of sand to lay around, then you can definitely do it here in Ambergris Caye.
There might be some areas of some beaches that are private based on the resort in back of that beach, and whatever launches there are in that resort are for their guests exclusively. However, the beaches here in San Pedro are public beaches. People not from the resort who just want to go to the beach can just take their towels and lay on the beach.

The best beaches on Ambergris Caye are at the north end of the island. That is where they have large, luxurious, and expensive hotels. These hotels open up their bar, pool, and their beaches, so you don’t have to stay at the hotel to use the facilities. The beaches here in Ambergris Caye are within a preserved environment. One of the things that is against the law is to remove any sea grass from the ocean. As a result, there is typically more sea grass than you would expect along the coast. Even with the sea grass, though, there are still a lot of really nice beaches in San Pedro (the main town of Ambergris Caye). It’s just not pure white.
Up north they have less sea grass so you could just walk into the water and you won’t the feeling that something is touching your back (like seaweed). They have cleaner beaches and less sea grass. There is nothing wrong with the beaches in San Pedro, though. You will see a lot of people swimming there. It’s just that there is a lot of sea grass.
