You can do either fly-fishing or deep-sea fishing in Ambergris Caye. There is also shell fish fishing and reef fishing here. Fly-fishing is a big thing here in Ambergris Caye. People come down to do saltwater fly-fishing for bonefish, hermit or tarpon.

There are different kinds of fishing available in and around Ambergris Caye, so which you do depends on what kind of fishing you want to do. For example, there are guides who can take you out reef fishing. You would go out to the reef and catch whatever fish you catch and you bring it back home, which is good. People here in Ambergris Caye get to eat their own catch.

There is also spear fishing here in Ambergris Caye. Most people do this to bring back fish as well or they do it as a sport just to get rid of fish like the invasive lionfish that is now affecting our waters.

One of the best things about fishing in Ambergris Caye is that there are some restaurants that will cook the fish you caught for you. So you could go out and fish, and whatever you catch, they will cook it for you. Given that you just caught the fish you know that it is extremely fresh and you know that you are going to eat some fresh dinner. So you could go out and fish, and whatever you catch, they will cook it for you. Given that you just caught the fish you know that it is extremely fresh and you know that you are going to eat some fresh dinner. Recently, the restaurant owner came and out and caught a huge tuna so that’s when we all had the tuna special, which was really neat and kind of awesome. It’s nice because the fish you eat is not imported. It’s fresh from the island and they just caught it off the shore.
There is another restaurant in town that has a sushi night every Tuesday and Thursday, where some of the fish they serve were just caught that day.
