One of the most popular diving spots in Belize is the Blue Hole. Certainly, it is a draw for the whole planet, as one of the “bucket list” dives. The spots closest to the reef here in Belize is Caye Caulker and San Pedro (on Ambergris Caye), which is a real advantage for divers because you do not have to be out on a boat waiting in the hot sun. You dive and come back to the dock, go to the bathroom, and stretch without being on water getting nauseous.
There are so many other dive locations in Belize where once you are out, you are out. Belize is the kind of diving place where you are so close to the reef that you can go back and forth between surface intervals, so it is really great diving.
The reef is a spur and groove formation, which offers lots of beautiful coral and good fish. You have to take the boat to go diving at the reef because of the boat traffic between the shore and the reef. You should not swim out to the reef.

If you have your own snorkeling mask and fins, you can jump right off the end of the docks here in Ambergris Caye and snorkel around it, underneath it, and you will see a lot of fish. We do have a lot of seagrass along the beach areas, which keeps our marine life healthy and that gives you the opportunity to just jump off the dock and see marine life.
If you want to go scuba diving in Ambergris Caye, you have to be a certified scuba diver.

Belize has the second largest barrier reef in the world right off our coast. Standing from the properties here in Ambergris Caye, you can see where the waves crash on the reef; it is really close by. Most people kayak to go to the reef and back.

Ambergris Caye is famous for its diving, and rightfully so. It’s breathtaking.
I’ve gone diving in Southeast Asia, and even so, Belize is my favorite place to dive. I have dive pictures that I took myself that are absolutely gorgeous, just like what you would see on websites or on National Geographic magazines. The corals are so beautiful.

Even just free swimming off the dock here the other day in between the reef and the shore, I saw a bright pink, giant starfish. I’ve never seen anything that large or that bright before. So you could just imagine how beautiful the actual reef is. You will also see stingrays blending in with the sea grass, just swimming out from shore, not even snorkeling or diving.

Yes, there is scuba diving and snorkeling in Ambergris Caye. Apart from fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling would be the main reason why people come to Ambergris Caye. We’ve made the top ten areas to scuba dive in several articles as well.
Ambergris Caye has the second largest barrier reef in the world visible from the shore. If you’re a good swimmer, you could actually swim there.
