How much do restaurants cost in Ambergris Caye?

The cost of food in restaurants here in Ambergris Caye in Belize is about the same as it is in Canada, where I come from. Ambergris Caye is a tourist island so they are going to charge you US $40 for a lobster tail.
You can have lunch for $10 in most places. If you are eating at a local restaurant, you could probably get a $5 meal and that consist of something like rice, beans, stew chicken, escabeche, cows foot and coleslaw. A hamburger meal...

If you are eating at a local restaurant, you could probably get a $5 meal and that consist of something like rice, beans, stew chicken, escabeche, cows foot and coleslaw. A hamburger meal is around $10 to $15. There are some foods that are less expensive, but these foods are a bit of an acquired taste
Cow’s foot, chicken feet, fish eyeballs, and pig’s tail are a big deal. People here eat the fish off of its skeleton, and they eat the face and eyeballs, too.

For around US $5 to $7, you are going to get a great plate of food for lunch at a local deli. This would typically be a small place, with from five to six different menu options, mostly of local food. They would have a soup. They would also have chicken with rice and beans with white rice and some beef. A good place would have rice and beans with stew chicken because that is one of the dishes that Belize is known for, but you will find jerk chicken, curry chicken, or onion soup, vegetable soup, fish. You will find different dishes, so that if you want to eat local food, there are small little different places to go with authentic Belizean food. If you want to go to the big restaurants or touristy restaurants then you could spend about $40 to $50 for dinner. So the cost of restaurants in Ambergris Caye depends on what you want to eat, where you want to eat and what kind of restaurant you want to go to.
You will see a lot of locals going to the local delis but these days, a lot of people that travel do not want all the touristy stuff. And if they are traveling on a budget, they would usually go to these the local delis. The ambiance is really great and the food is really nice. It’s like you are in someone’s home having a good meal.

An example that includes lobster, green salad, a little bit of rice and fresh juice is at the Hidden Treasure Restaurant, one of the most expensive restaurants in Ambergris Caye, just a mile and a half away from the main town of Ambergris Caye, San Pedro. Since not everyone in Belize wants to eat at high end restaurants because not everyone can afford that, you can find restaurants where you can have a US $15 meal. For US $15 in Ambergris Caye, you can have grilled chicken with coconut rice and garden salad at a very nice restaurant. For US $5, you won’t be eating at a restaurant but at a local food stall in town where you can have a very good burrito. For a traditional Belizean meal for lunch, it would cost around US $7. My family and I go to these places and have these types of dishes every now and then.
