How’s the nightlife in Belize?

Here’s the thing. More than about 85% of our country of Belize has people in the twenties or younger. So you guessed it. Our nightlife is pretty much happening. We have many clubs, bars, and restaurants, etc., that anyone can go and have a great time.
However, our country isn’t that accepting of many things, being a country where basically the Catholic religion still has a lot of power. For example, you won’t be able to find strip...

Belize as a country is a fun place to be, if you want to have a good time. The nightlife in Cayo, in Placencia, and in the cayes (islands) are great. Music and dancing is definitely a "must" here in Belize. We also have a lot of great food. We have local bars where people can drink the local drinks of Belize such as Belikin Beer and the Panty Ripper, which is a mix of Caribbean rum and Coke.

Cayo is a nice place to go for a party, but it is not as much of a party place as Placencia or the cayes. Cayo has a lot of parks, and the places where you can go for a nightlife is more spread out. It is more suitable for families who want to go to parks or eat at a restaurant. There are also night clubs where you can go dancing in Cayo as well as in Placencia, Orange Walk, and San Pedro in Ambergris Caye, where there are more night clubs in those areas than in other areas in the north.

With no movie theaters, gyms, bowling alleys, country clubs, etc., and just one small museum to better understand the culture and history of Belize, what do we do for entertainment?
We make our own!
We socialize and entertain each other rather than being entertained. We entertain at home around the pool with a BBQ or a potluck. We organize full moon, new moon and super moon parties.

Here are just a few of the other things we do here in our area of Belize, San Ignacio:
- Chess club for the young children.
- Expat-organized line dancing lessons once a week (that produced this first ever flash mob in Belize).
- Darts and pizza once a week at a local bar.
- Outdoor activities and adventures such as horse-back riding, zip lining, cave tubing, river canoeing, etc., and the list goes on and on with all the Maya mountains, with it's caves and rivers provide.
- Regular, dance and laughter yoga are available as an activity.
The music scene is quite active here, with free concerts in the town’s main square on the weekends and in bars such as "The Soul Project Space” and other bars with open mic nights.
As locals and expats get involved in the community, more and more entertainment is organized for all ages.

By the way, here's the YouTube of our very own flash mob:

Most people go to the island of Ambergris Caye for the nightlife as it is a tourist destination and they have several nightclubs in the area where people come to party until 3 AM. San Pedro (the principle town on Ambergris Caye) is a well-known tourist destination with a very active nightlife.

In San Ignacio, where I am from, in the Cayo District, we do have several nightclubs in the area. They are open from Thursday to Sunday, but the more active days are Thursdays, which usually start with a karaoke and end up with dancing at the nightclubs. Fridays are a little bit slower but there are lots of Ladies’ Nights in town. Saturday is another active day for clubbing, when you will usually find DJs and local bands coming from different areas in San Ignacio.
Placencia is not really a party place. There are bars where you could go and drink but there is only one nightclub in the entire peninsula, which is called Street Feet. There are two or three bars, (Barefoot, Tipsy Tuna come to mind immediately). There is not a lot of nightlife in Placencia as it is more for people who are tired and wants to relax in a quiet place. The main area for nightlife in Belize is Ambergris Caye. That’s where most of the bars are located.
