Are there shopping malls in Belize?

There are no shopping malls in Belize, so if you want to go to a shopping mall, you can go over to Guatemala or to Mexico. From Placencia to Chetumal, Mexico (where they have a shopping mall) could be a four-hour drive. It is quite simple to go over the border as long as you have your passport.
Chetumal is pictured to the left.

For example, if you live here in Placencia, you can leave at around 4 AM, and you will be in Chetumal at 8 AM. Then you do whatever you have to do, leave at around 3 PM and you will be back in Placencia at around 7 PM. Most people go and stay overnight there in Chetumal, though.

There is no shopping mall in Belize that you can actually compare to the ones in the US. There is a shopping center in Belize City that people call “The Mall,” but it is not really a mall; it is just a shopping center. It is a Chinese-owned store that sells things that you would need every day, such as cookware, clothing, stuffed animals, etc. It is just about 4,000 square feet. If you want to go to a big mall like the ones in the US, you can go to Chetumal, which is on the Mexican border. Chetumal is the first town of Mexico coming from Belize. They have a McDonald’s over there and other American brands.

There's a joke among Belizeans that although Mexicans believe that Chetumal is the southernmost city in Mexico, it's actually the northernmost city in Belize.

On any given weekend, the number of Belizean license plates in the mall parking lot rivals the number of Mexican plates.
There is frequent and inexpensive bus service that runs between Corozal (the city in Belize closest to Mexico) and Chetumal, so it's not necessary to have a car or take it across the border. Taxis in Chetumal are ubiquitous and cheap.
From San Pedro, there is water taxi service direct to Chetumal once a day. The boat arrives in Chetumal about 10 am and departs at 3:00 pm.
